Bears hate people, get away from roads, trails etc. As far away as possible.
Bears like the thickest, nastiest woods to hide in. If it's easy to walk in and you can see to shoot more than 30 yards it's too open.
What methods are used to hunt bear legally? In MN we run baits or use fruity/grease scent to draw them in. If it's in the mountains and baiting isn't an option spot and stalk might be your best bet.
The meat is fantastic, bear ribs over the open fire has been a tradition at our camp and it's my favorite meal of the year. Good luck anon.
