>>1808487There's a few spots of trouble in the northern Caucasus, but even that area is more or less sufficiently safe to travel nowadays. As for the other part of the Caucasus: don't accidentally walk into another country or one of the breakaway regions - it happens easily there, did it twice myself - and you'll be fine. Biggest dangers are by far traffic and friendly locals feeding you entirely too much alcohol. Maybe shepherd dogs in remote areas, but they've never bothered me.
Tl;dr yes it's safe, and it's prime hiking ground.
