a friend got bitten by a tiger snake on his farm.

the fucker knifed the snake while it was biting him.

he then just took a nap in the field.

If you get stressed the venom spreads faster, if you calm down the spread slows down. It would have taken the ambulance an hour to reach him so he saw no point in calling them. Just took a nap instead.

That happened 10 years ago, his alive and well.

i knew a guy who got bit by a timber. He said it was like two awful wasp stings. It burned but he got to the hospital in time so the damage was minimal. Another guy was out camping with his kids and he killed one that was too clos. He got a fuck huge fine from the DNR because its illegal where I am to kill one if not in self defense.

Unless you have some allergic reaction to their venom, you should be fine. A lot of people won’t even go to the hospital for their bites, though I wouldn’t recommend that.

Only by non venomous snakes. I like picking up black rat snakes or water snakes because they are usually surprisingly calm when handled. They might take a swipe or two right when you handle them but they usually calm down after that. Water snakes have an anti-coagulant in their saliva so if they do happen to bite you you'll bleed like a pig

The only one I've ever seen in the wild. Went hunting on abandoned property and they had a pond with a dock that was falling apart. There was a huge mess of sticks and brush caught under the dock and there had to be over 10 cottonmouths resting in the branches. It was incredible

That reminds me of the time I went out to Southern California at the Santa Ynes mountain range. I went on for a hike and at some point as I made my descent from the mountain I was hiking on, I swear I heard a fucking rattle and I looked in front of me and saw black scales slither underneath a pile of rocks. I said

Got bit by a timber rattler. Bastard didn't even rattle until after I got struck.

Immediate pain, comparable to a wasp but it sticks around for 8 hours and spreads to your chest. Was too far from hospital or phone service so I just weathered it out. Felt kind of "off" or dizzy for a few days afterwords.

Overall 6/10, may be willing to try again

This is a completely retarded. Even the smallest Rattlesnakes still have pit viper venom which causes severe necrosis. If enough of your muscles and tissue rots away you're not getting those functions back. Its probably easier just to get a shot of antivenom

I live in a rural area where dealing with snakes is somewhat common, and the folk lore around here is to avoid juvenile snakes at all costs because supposedly they are not able to control the amount of venom they inject when they bite so they'll give you everything they've got and overdose you, where adults will only use a small amount. I have no clue if there's any legitimacy to that, but if there is it looks like this fellow was bitten by a juvenile copperhead. I've always been told copperhead bites weren't that serious and people talk about just sleeping them off with some swelling occuring around the bite. a google search brings the following snippet

This is just a guess but the outcome for tissue could be worse at extremities. I’d imagine there’s less blood flow and surrounding tissue overall there so the venom is concentrated right in that finger as opposed to getting bit in the calf where it would spread and have a less severe effect over a larger area. Total guess, though.

The bigger the rattlesnake, the older it is, and the more control is has over its venom release. More often than not, mature rattlesnakes will not unload all their venom on a single bite. But the young ones aren't as adept to the skill and will sometimes blow their whole load. Watch out for the small ones.

Yeah Rattlers are nice in that regard which is why I hate when fucks kill them because it just leaves the ones that are more likely to bite instead of rattle to breed. Same with Coral snakes in that they are easy to spot. When I was in high school I used to rock climb a lot. One of my spots was this short limestone bolering cliff and at the base was a small trail separating that cliff from the trees. I remember the spot I set up at had a huge copper mouth coiled on the tree and I didn't notice for minutes. Fucker was just staring at me, wish I still had the picture. Easily coulda bit me

Only pet snakes. I had a Mexican black king snake that bit me once. Didn't really hurt and he let go right away since it was a feeding mishap and my fault entirely. My buddy had a full sized woma python that just wanted blood all the time. That fucker wouldn't let go for anything. Ran its head underwater, and it just kinda kept trying to get my finger deeper into its throat through the gurgles. Fuck that snake.

There are 5 species of venomous snakes in Louisiana. I’ve seen all of them multiple times, stepped on two species (three different times), and have been shaded by one, but never bitten.

I don’t handle wildlife, but if telling on snakes isn’t enough to illicit a bite then what is? Fondling it inappropriately without consent?
