No one can promise you're not going to be around retards but some of these jobs will not be attractive to certain types of people.
Ideally you'd look for seasonal jobs on usajobs for something you're interested in but it's pretty competitive, and government hr has to consider veterans and other feds before external applicants for a lot of jobs. These americorps partnerships aren't well advertised or understood so you have better odds at finding interesting work. Just be careful if you want to be outside, as some of those positions are office work heavy.
