People breeding for confirmation shows will have the most athletic, long lived dogs when it comes to most groups. Toys and the like are a different story, but even then any genetic problems are bred out. These breeders take it seriously. They have the family history of their dogs so inbreeding isn’t a thing.
If you just want a certain breed and find a run of the mill breeder near by, you don’t know what you’re getting. And it’s really bad with common breeds like Labradors. Two local dipshits will figure out how to breed them and sell the puppies for $300 each with absolutely no research as to genetic diseases, health history, or genealogy. Then the owner will wonder why his 10yo lab has fucked up hips and shitty eyesight.
I have two dogs from confirmation litters (they’re just pets; no shows or competitions), 13 months apart, from the same dam but different sires. Both parents have AKC platinum grand champion titles, while my older one is from a dog with more titles than any other dog of his breed in AKC history. I have info on both going back 6 generations.
