First of all, you should get your hands on a map of propety lines. My state has an easy ArcGIS map of all the lines (also shows roads and rivers which is great lol) and each box you can click on it and see who owns it. Sometimes called a tax map.
Sometimes you'll find POSTED signs in places that show up as state/public on the property map. But most of the time it's legit.
Now when it is legit, I often will still just trespass in but in certain circumstances.
I dare not to park anywhere that's posted. That's an easy way to get in trouble.
If these are posted out in the woods, no sign of anyone taking care of the surroundings, no sign of hunting stands, and not in clear of anyone's backyard, house, etc im at least going on the bank and wading. (but not going any deeper into that property like to take a shortcut or anything)
If the both sides of the river are owned by the same owner however it's a bit different. Because in case with a river owned by two different owners per side, then I imagine I can just cross when I hear someone coming onto the otherside.
I did this once. It was a hunting club on one side, farmer's land on another. This random dude comes out of nowhere from the hunting club side, but since i was on the farmer's land, all he could do is say "hey uh you ok, you know it's p-posted on that other side" and I just walked on lol. He was probably pissy I was out there.
Another time an owner told me to just stay on the other side of the river that wasnt his, and that was that.
You just gotta play dumb sometimes too. I trespassed into an active quarry ontop of the mountain and looked down into it. There were posted signs and just went up anyways, and I came from a local park right alongside. Truck comes rolling uphill and guy comes up to us and tells us "wtf you doing". All I stated was I came from the park, and I saw no signs. I was let off lol.
I suspect one day ill get fined for it. but for now, YOLO
