are you talking about FORCLAZ 2 ? Looks really good, almost too good in compere to VANGO Cairngorm 200. Two enterances makes a huge difference.

Hillman. It’s better than any MacPac tent I’ve ever owned. AliExpress. Bought it for my 9yo for garden camping expecting disappointment. It’s fucking bomb proof. Taking it alpine tomorrow. Winter here. Expecting snow.

As for the cheap ass tent I’m using - I’ve spent thousands of $NZ over the past few years on tents. I’ve wrecked all of them. But this Ali tent is seriously 1/10 the price, and looks like it will outlast all the others. No shit. I might order a couple more in case they’re not around in a couple of years. (Like shoes. Find something you like? Buy 3 more.)

MacPac gear is pretty fucking solid.
They went a bit consoomer a few years back though and moved production from NZ to China.
Alpine tents, sleeping bags, and AzTec fabric packs are still solid. The rest is ok but more Kathmandu quality. It’s all well designed but only the items above still last well. Cheaper though. I have a Prophet goretex jacket from ’02 that’s only now nearing replacement. The new ones I’d give 2yrs regular use. Cost $899 back then. Got a Sanctuary sleeping bag on sale a couple of years ago along with the XPD down jacket. They’re both great. Spent 3hrs standing around in 5c wind today drinking beer, was toasty warm in the jacket. Sleeping bag in central Otago, -15, was sweating zipped up, freezing unzipped, couldn’t win. See pic.
Latest sleeping bag range looks a bit shit.
TLDR it’s a bit of a mixed bag.

Also, no it’s not heavy.
This is now NZ’s #1 outdoor gear. It is generally slightly heavier, but it’s absolutely indestructible, and designed by pros. Can’t fault it.

Go for it, collapsible ones are fine as long as they lock together really well. I have some black diamonds with cork handles that I like but everyone is different.

Costco sells Cascade carbon fiber collapsible ones with cork handles in store for $30 for a pair. They were on sale $20 2 months ago. I don't remember the weight, but it's slightly under a pound for a set. You can spend 5 times the price to save 2 ounces per set if you really want to.
