>>1820832i gave some frog-poster a whole guide to trout fishing in NJ two threads ago but ill paste again:
:
plenty of wild trout and holdover trout in NJ, but PLEASE do not fish for em right now as it's balls-sweating hot and any caught are 1) a part of a holdover/wild population 2) will likely die due to stress from heat + hooking and handling them.
Once fall hits, go crazy tho. Big trout are stocked around the state. Also cross the delaware to any PA streams too.
Right now you should be fishing those stocked waters in NJ for smallmouth bass, and then revisit the deep holes/runs you find now in the fall and they'll be loaded with nice trout. Escape the bridges, most anglers (and their moms and sons) flock to the bridges and easy parks to set up and fish and by the time you get there, it'll be fished out. But I catch fall stocked trout throughout the winter and even find them right into spring.
NJ trout angling is great, but so is smallies, pike, muskie, catfish, etc etc. Seek them out for now until trout are stocked.

and in regards to the line, yea you can use braid for trout, id just get a setup with straight mono but you can work something out with braid if you get a leader.
also we just got 3-4 inches of rain I think all the trout streams are flooded rn
