You want the hammock to be hung at around a 30° angle. This can be tricky without a structural ridge line, as you have to hang the suspension higher if the anchor points are further away.
Also, hang your foot end higher than your head. Our body weight isn’t evenly distributed from from head to toe relative to the heaviest point when lying down. So when you lie in a hammock you may feel like you’re sliding down toward your butt if both ends are an equal height from the ground.
Gathered end hammocks are meant for the occupant to lie diagonally.
