Is that like nettles? Some nettles here grow as shrubby trees over head height, and will fuck you up. Hikers, hunters and their dogs have died from it. It only grows in a few areas luckily.

My friend wears shorts and fishes a river bank that has it but manages to be fine. He got allergic to it before by it (or poison oak)
I never got it yet and do similar, but wear long pants/sleeves most of the times and tuck into socks. I do this for ticks tho.

NZ Ongaonga is huge, dense, and toxic as fuck. You can walk into it before you even notice it if you’ve walking in dense bush. There’s whole valleys of the shit, particularly around Karamea in Kahurangi National Park.

Ha ha ha I was going to mention that as well as the ongaonga but I couldn’t remember what it was called.
Doesn’t CAN have giant hogweed too? I heard it’s super bad if you get the sap on you, but wonder if it’s overrated as Wiki says we have it in NZ, And I’ve definitely had that shit on me before.

There's Giant Hogweed in Canada too, but it's not too pervasive. Most parks, trails, etc. know how to manage it so that no one gets burned

I have a suspicion that poison ivy only thrives in degraded acidic soil. I think that if you restore health to soil and you restore certain high-function keystone species, they will be allelopathic to poison ivy and exclude it through either those mechanisms or by competitive inhibition. I never see poison ivy in hemlock groves. It just doesn't exist in certain ecosystems despite the fact its present nearby in the area I live.

If you're outside and not protected with pants and long sleeves, and you know you've touched it, you can protect yourself with dirt/clay. Clay is sticky and adsorbs lots of stuff, but the particles are too large to be absorbed by your skin. If you rub it on your skin, it will bind the oils and keep them from being absorbed This isn't a perfect solution, but it seems to drastically extend the window you have to wash yourself.
