How do people go hiking for extended periods of time? I’m talking for months and months. Obviously, you need to save (lots of) money. But for those who hike through a small nation (someone here spent 6 months in japan) or something like the AT, how can that be feasible for most normies?

>no contact with family
>just tell your job you’ll be gone for half a year
>hoarding gear to prepare for your trip

What do you even do after a few weeks? Let’s say you travel to another country, do you just hike in a circle through it? How do you resupply yourself? How big does your budget have to be?

And most importantly, what do you get out of 6 months in a foreign country or deep in the AT that a few days or weeks won’t give you?
