How many lumens does a flashlight need before you consider it a good light? Is anything below 2000 gay? Is 3200 overkill?

How much would you pay for a good flashlight? Is it silly to spend 80 or 90 on a super bright tactical flashlight? Does tactical mean anything?

Calm your tits there, bud.
Anything over 100 lumens is fine for casual use. Be cautious of 'tactical' lights as they tend to be marketed towards security professions and aren't very practical while /out/ (bulky, overpowered, generally overkill).
Pretty well any light in the $25 to $30 range (USD) will last you for years. Do some research and then post your findings in the QTDDTOT thread if you can't decide

I nighthike with either 4 lumens, or 30 lumens depending on how rocky or rooty it is. My headlamp has the ability to go to 500 lumens, but the battery will be dead after 2 hours. You lose color and it gets pretty glarey with ridiculously bright lights.

Don't be a fucking retard, anon. You don't need anything of the sort. I have a Sofirn SP31 V2.0 and it's max is 1200 lumens. I don't even use it at max. It's lowest output is generally enough for almost anything /out/ unless you're running. The only reason I bought one which can be powerful is in case I need to call mountain rescue then I'll set it on strobe on turbo and tell them to look for the strobe light.

I like my lumentop fw4a the anduril interface is very convenient once you learn it also it has lots of cool features like a candle mode and even a voltage check also it's small as fuck but insanely bright at 3600 lumens and I got the sst40 LEDs that have a color rendering index of 95 so it's a very pleasant light not some ugly bluish beam like cheap leds

You're really not. I used to have one of those and it was a pretty class light. You very rarely need something big and flashy, pardon the pun. The mini maglite is good too because it's AA so if it dies then spares are easy. Some of the brighter lights use special batteries which you would need to charge because you're not going to have spares in a pack or in a shop.

Issue with the fwXa line is the tail switches can be unreliable. I’d recommend an emissar d4 or a cheaper mechanical convoy. I’ve had my fw3a turn itself into turbo and burn a mark on the nightstand, and I’d be pissed if it did that in my bag while out and drained the battery or melted a hole in my gear.
If you’ve really got funds, just get a zebra light and feel good knowing you already have the best light available.

I've been using a Fenix PD35 for a while now and I love it. 960 lumens. Uses an 18650. I paid about $70 for it five or so years ago. Recommended.

This is my flashlight. Here are its features:
- 394 lumens which ought to be enough for anybody
- two brightness settings: on and off
- 180 degree light so you can actually see what you're doing
- warm white instead of blinding blue
- no faggot strobe modes

I think these cheap guys are close to 600 lumen and they’re bright as fuck. Anything more is mosty if you need an area light for rebuilding a Chebby 350 small block innawoods

I have a small "tactical" flashlight. The "tactical" part is that the end where the lens is is scalloped metal so you dig your enemy's eye out with it.

It'd have to be a right angle design if I did cos fuck not having your hands free what's the damn point.
I've found this is all I really need while /out/. I carry a fenix cl20r too which gives off comfy diffused lantern light with a warmer color, both have red led modes which I find essential.
Preserving your night vision > blinding yourself by shining your light at undergrowth directly in front of you.

The one downside I have with headlamps is when it's very cold your breath will fog up in front of your lamp and make it impossible to see shit.
Though I've found the work around for that is just strapping this to one of your backpack straps as if it's a right angle design flashlight
