So I'm still planning to solo Mount Baker this August, and I'm wondering if I can wear the boots shown in the picture instead of spending $2-300 more on footwear. Any thoughts or recommendations, and would anyone like to join me for the summit?

Don't know the specific mountain but there's a few considerations to make about shoes.

Are you going to use crampons?

Are you going to do some easy climbing up to Grade 3 UIAA?

Also August is a horrible time for cascade volcanoes. Gonna be on a lot of bare glacial ice. Aaaannnddd you wanna wear those fucking police boots when you need good crampons and a stiff sole to be on that shit.

the most imporant thing for mountaineering boots for use with crampons is that they have a rigid sole with little to no bend. proper mountaineering boots will have a layer of metal or something in the sole. snowboarding boots are about the most flexible sole you can get without being unsafe

Work with crampons and have a stiff sole that lets you actually climb shit with while wearing those crampons.

Well you will need crampons to climb on compact snow/ice.

You want to get classical /semiautomatic compatible crampons, you can't use normal trekking shoes with them, since they aren't stiff enough and the excessive flexing while walking can, and probably will, cause you to lose the crampons and from there it's a shitshow

OP, that's not a mountaineering boot you dumb nigger. It's generic awinter boot.
That said, you can still find low end crampons that fit on more or less any boot. Since Mt Baker is not technical you can probably get away with it using the ones you already own, but I'd definitely recommend trying crampons on at the store with your boots to make sure they fit well before purchase.

Looking for something cheap (~$100, preferably under) that is comfortable, preferably waterproof, and can handle mostly just light yet long hikes and camping trips.

My Fortuna 50$ boots have been abused for 6 months now, climbing on the shittiest terrain possible, rocks, inclinde/decline, grass, mud, leaves, sideways stepping.

i pretty much rape them weekly.
and they are stilll holding on.

pro hint: if you buy a 300$ solomon, it would have been torn apart in 5 months.

i got a pair of columbia bugaboots and they're the worst pair of boots i have ever owned, if grass is slightly wet you're slipping, zero traction in mud, if you're on ice forget about walking, if you're on anything wet you're gonna slide

i don't know how columbia made such a shitty pair of boots, they're warm but god damn they grip NOTHING unless it's man-made pavement
