I joined because I loved camping and doing cool shit in the outdoors like archery, fishing, shooting, making a fire, tents, hiking, using a pocket knife, etc. It was the best way to be a boy.
I got a taste of that, mostly because my Dad would come and encourage it on outings. The 'Pack Leaders' were a mom and dad of an actual fucking INSANE sperglord who is now an actual tranny. They were the most dysfunctional bizarre emotionally disturbed weirdos. Every meeting was just us boys trying to do fun wholesome boy shit while they argued and tried to take control and their future tranny fucking drooling weirdo cried and touched himself.
The organization allowed fuck-ups to take control. Who would have guessed that they were also religious whackos. We went camping and ignored the pack leaders and just tried to be kids. We all knew they were fucking bad influences. My Dad used to come and show all the boys how to fly fish and they loved him and it was the best time.
As soon as about 5th or 6th grade hit, and the thought of girls knowing who we were associating with (the fucking whacko family), literally the entire Pack quit. I don't regret it. Here's the thing though, I am an avid outdoorsman to this day, more than anyone I know, and not because of that organization, but only in spite of it.
