>>1835680Dutchware hammock body, make your own suspension with polyester straps and AmSteel (pretty easy), and a Kelty or Ozark Trail (Walmart) tarp, and a no-see DIY underquilt (lots of options there). The entire thing probably $140, and you can upgrade parts later.
I’m assuming $40 each for the hammock and tarp, $20 for suspension materials, and another $40 for the quilt. I really don’t know, but it’s easy to do some research. This isn’t like buying a tent, where you just chose a model and whip out a credit card.
Hammock body depends on how big of a fatass you are and how stretchy you want the material. They’re all the same price unless you need a double layer because of too many double cheeseburgers.
For the suspension I’d recommend AmSteel loops on the hammock (pretty standard) and 12’ long, 1” wide polyester straps with cinch buckles. It’s a simple, hassle free setup. The tree straps and suspension are the same part and it has a built in water break.
The tarp would be hung from corner to corner with some kind of polyester line (whatever is cheap; Dynaglide and Zing It are fancy but pricey). There’s hardware for hanging, which is nice if you have smaller line like Zing It but with larger diameter line you can tie knots.
The no-sew DIY PLUQ (do it yourself poncho liner underquilt) is an underquilt made from an army surplus poncho liner (aka “woobie”) and shock cord. It’s good down to about 55°.
Most of this stuff isn’t light, just cheap.
