How come i never see an, surfers here?

It's a very good out sport because the longer you hike away from normies the more fun you'll have surfing due to crowd

Mate we’ve got so many surfers here I have to share my local river wave with them!

I did actually try surfing with mixed success.
Got a board - see pic. Went to a few spots around Dunedin NZ, but it was sharky af. There was a local great white they called KZ7 after an America’s Cup yacht because it looked like a huge sail when it swam past. That’s a solid NO from me. Took it to the river wave quite a bit but ended up breaking it. Could stand up and carve a bit but nothing spectacular. River was cool because you could have a beer in the sun and then jump from the rocks straight onto the face of it. Pic is actually the 2nd of 2 waves at the local river.

Looks nice.
I grew up in PNG, heard there are some amazing breaks over there, but it’s a bit bloody dangerous now unfortunately.
A couple of mates kayaked there a couple of years ago despite what I told them. Somehow fumbled their way through the highlands without drama, better luck than management I think.

Kiwi lad. Father involved with mining. Lived Port Moresby, Lae, Rabaul, Honiara. Left in the 90s when it went a bit nuts. Civil war on Guadalcanal, Rabaul flattened by eruption, and crime going off the charts. Spent nearly 10yrs all up. I’d love to go back, but I’ve got a son now and it’s just not safe.

Was pretty cool, basically grew up in a travel brochure ha ha white beaches, coral reefs, palm trees etc.
it was really safe in most places to begin with. Japanese tunnels and plane wrecks in the sea and jungle were cool too.
I’ve got a shit load of photos to post one day, but I need to scan all the prints.

Have been surfing a lot in the Bay Area. Just camping in a lot, using a hand me down board and no clue. I've gotten ok at paddling out and can body surf, but still can't stand up. I hear the best way to do is it just a very vigorous push ups, but then I lose balance. Also don't know what waves to go for and what waves to sit out on. All in all it has been a blast.

Every Monday morning I surf Bolsa Chica California with my 9ft board. My dog surfs with me some mornings pic related. Afterwards I sometimes sit and talk with old surfers about random shit in parking lot. It’s pretty chill.
