Guy went traveling on a horse across country, got constantly harassed by local villagers, cops, rangers, got all his stuff checked, documents(both his and horse's) etc. Literally in the middle of the field guy comes to him blaiming worst things, even saying don't come close to village, or you'll get lynched coz some cows disappeared lately... Finally he gets stopped by cops, arrested, harassed, took his horse and dog away, and deported him... The reality of our world, I feel like they killed the last bits of light in him.
