So far as features go it just depends on that you are going to be doing with it. Universal things to look for are fit and comfort. Get a bike that is the right size for you and feels comfortable to ride.
Beyond that look for something that has quality parts and if you are buying used make sure that the bike has been well cared for and doesn't have any sever damage like cracked frame, bent fork, etc.
