So at present I am on a scientific research station, getting paid decent money to work, exercise and live. I leave here in April and will be back in the UK some time in April/May. I'll have a bit of time and plenty of money to do whatever I want. Basically I've been looking around for a cool project and here is what I've come up with:
-Fly to Vancouver. I have a friend there I can crash with while I buy a second hand touring bike (nothing too fancy) plus some panniers etc. I'll take most of my own /out/ kit from the UK...stove, cookware, tent, sleeping bag etc.
-Cycle from Vancouver to Edmonton, across the Rockies. This will be a cool start to the adventure.
-Sell/part exchange bike for a canoe. Outfit it; get some portage wheels, a PFD etc.
-Canoe down rivers, portage, cross lakes all the way across Canada. This should take approx 2.5 months.
-Finally reach Quebec, where my journey will end. I have a friend there who I can stay with for a few days and who can probably help to sell the canoe if I can't get rid of it immediately.
-Fly home
Looking for anyone who knows Canada, especially he waterways, to give some advice. A bit about me...I'm an experienced mountaineer and hiker, totally fine with camping and in good shape. What I don't know much about is...
Bears
Bugs (Canadian specific)
Other dangers
Ease of getting food/petrol when going through towns.
Distance between possible resupplies
Canadian laws, if applicable
Pic entirely unrelated.
