Building a homestead because I'm tired as fuck of being in the rat race. My primary focuses are going off-grid and becoming self-sufficient.
Soon, I'll be finishing my diploma and I'll start working as a Web Developer from home (20 hours of work a week, any more is wage-slavery), plus a few side-incomes (model steam engine manufacturing, etc.) Plus, getting a general engineering degree afterwards so I can start small-scale CNC/manufacturing.
As such, I'll be bringing in about 100,000 Canadian dollars; however, because everything is so fucking expensive here, I'll be moving to Oregon instead. There, I'm purchasing a 10 acre property and placing a trailer on it (with how unstable the world is, I'd like the opportunity to get the fuck out and get on the road within a day's notice.)
I'll build a permanent barn and use a second, older trailer as a workshop. There'll be:
>wind turbine array (DIY), providing around 4kW of power (I use around 600W in my apartment, 4kW should be plenty for a trailer and some power tools.)
>well-water for house plumbing.
>rain-water for watering crops, part of Oregon I'm scouting out has a fuck-ton of rainfall.
>septic hooked up to trailer.
>build a biogas generator for fuelling
>will eventually also add solar to the roof of BOTH trailers with an array of backup batteries for redundancy
>final stage involves buying a THIRD trailer and using that as equipment/tractor transport in case I need to move away quickly
>buying walk-behind tractor to manage a varied garden of 2 acres with plans to upgrade to a proper, riding tractor
>getting a portable chicken coop and keeping cows in the barn, practicing rotation/sustainable animal-keeping
>will also buy 20 acres in Northern Canada to escape to if need be
>income sources will consist of - freelance webdev, running a small business and small-scale manufacturing of autistic hobby supplies
