If you think you'll get stuck in sand or mud you have to prepare for that too.4x4 is great but even those get stuck.
I always packed a good full sized spade shovel, blocks of wood 4x4 and 4x6; two foot lengths 2 pieces of each. 2x4 four foot lengths 4 pieces each. A good bumper jack (sometimes call Farm Jack), and a two ton hydraulic floor jack. A good two ton fence puller.
I traveled through a lot of sandy desert working a ranch and in rain and shine. Also a couple chains a 20 footer heavy duty and a lighter 30 footer, I can't tell you how many times having good chains saved my life or helped me save someone elses. Oh and a good full sized axe, while working also a nice stihl chainsaw you can never go wrong.
