Just bought a Chinese reel and telescope rod. Didn’t want to but everything else locally is sold out. If it’s shit then it’s only 20 bucks down the drain. In the meantime I guess it’s catfish and bluegills with a cane pole for me.

This kinda fish has to have the barbs cut off before you can kill it.
I don't believe in wacking the fish on the head mainly because the fish I would keep don't have a head that can be mashed most people just toss the fish in a cooler with ice.
The only fish I'd keep and Mangrove Red Snappers and maybe Mullet.

I only have access to freshwater fish. Crappies, perch, bluegill, walleye, pike, trout. I just cut their throats to bleed them. A little bit before filleting them. I’ll hang them on the head with a rock or something too. Always bleed your fish before filleting. It makes the whole process easier

Thanks. It also has a good size pouch with a zipper on the back of it (with no flap over it so it cant get stuck easily). Not only that, but on the opposite side of the container (with fishing tackle in it that I posted) can also store fishing lures. Who ever designed this box did a pretty good job.

To the anons who where asking in the last thread, the trout I showed are genetically 100% brook trout. They are the only species of fish in the lakes that I fish. Some are natural and some are stocked. Those fish were natural since they had no clipped fins and that specific lake hadn't been stocked in over 15 years. It's literally some of the best brookie fishing in the world for both numbers and size.

If that guy who I talked to about the Daiwa Luvias is in here I got it in the mail yesterday.
The Russian guy on YouTube is right about it having a good amount of resistance in the gears from the grease, but it is by no means a bad or unpleasant reel. I think his problem with it is overstated because he's probably using retrieving lures like grubs and inline spinners. I'm using mine on finesse bass applications where all I have to do is reel up slack infrequently because I fish the lures so slow.
The pros: there is no slack in the handle or gears. This is the most solid and well connected reels I've held. I own 2 Tatula LTs and have handled Ballistic LTs and Stradic CI4+s. There is absolutely no play in the gears like with the other ones which is incredibly comfortable when using shakeyheads. The other reels I can feel the teeth of the gears rocking but this is perfectly meshed and there's no wiggle. Additionally the knob on the reel handle is perfectly flush and doesn't wiggle like the other reels either.
The Russian guy is right about it stopping on a dime and it is very nice to have. Other reels might reel more in than you want but the Luvias is more precise.
The drag is par, same as my Tatula LTs, but I do like having the oversized main gear. I felt like I didn't have to build momentum on the fish. I can't wait to hook into a larger fish to really put it through it's paces, but this is all I have to show for it for now.

I have it paired on a 7' ML F Rebellion and I'm far more impressed with the rod than the reel. I own $160 Curado rods and for a measly extra $40 the Rebellion puts those to shame. The rod is unreasonably light and sensitive, and I am curious how the new Zodias will compare.
I would like to buy the new Zodias and Vanford when they come out to see how they compare to the Rebellion and Luvias. If the Vanford is just as good as the Luvias then Shimano is the undeniable GOAT reel manufacturer.

9 foot 8wt would be the best option. Its the most versatile rod for non trout applications. I would recommend a saltwater specific rod since they tend to have more power and a faster action.

An 8 or 9 weight rod with a fairly agressive action and line is about right. An echo boost salt woyld be a good option, as would a reddington behemoth, and any agressive intermediate line should do fine. You dont usually need drag for bass, but for saltwater and carp you do.

Good to know that its a good reel and yeah I did watch the i_fish review as well. What line did you put on it?
I might just get a Luvias 2500 for a dropshot setup I've always wanted. I feel like if I were to pay the exorbitant import tax+shipping from Japan I should get the more exclusive FC model since the regular 2500 will probably not be enough for the great lakes Salmon run in the Fall (the only other time I'd use a spinning reel). The other option I have is buying the Daiwa Ballistic LT FW 2500 C-XH which I can find locally for about $400 CAD.
I also own a Rebellion (7'1, MH, Fast, 2pc) baitcasting rod and its great bang for buck considering the features it has.

Let us know how the reel breaks in for you after a while.

15lb Berkeley x9. Just as good if not better than Daiwa J-Braid x8, and noticably better than power pro or Sufix 832.
The thing to be aware of with the Luvias FC model is that it is only 155g. I own the non FC version which balances exactly perfectly on the Rebellion rod I have, and if I had the lighter FC model the reel would be too light and the center of balance would be on the blank in front of the handle. IIRC people online with the FC model say they use them on short, light, JDM rods like 6'9" Megabass rods or something because the reels are so damn light.

Its a flouro, dad lost one of my frogs the other day on the other one from the packet, probably because he is new to baitcasters and it kept "snaping" in the air where the bait abruptly stops, guess it just burst

But here deceptively small waters can hold mean fuckimg pike, so i pretty much always have a leader on just in case

Can't remember what that weight/hook was called but there's a joint between the hook and the weight and it really lets the bait do flashes and kicks

My dropshot rod will probably be a 2-piece 6'7" ML rod so I'm not too worried.
How much of that 15lb line could you fit onto that regular 2500 reel? If its more than 150m then I might be able to use it for salmon and steelhead fishing. Would save me from having to buy another spinning reel.

I see no reason a pike wouldn't hit it, maybe the free swinging weight could cause issues when landing, but I don't think it would be too bad for the pike I'm hoping will eat this

Musky can still bite through 130lb fluoro if they take the lure deep. Pike have the same teeth and even if they cant go through 130lb, I have seen fish (70-100cm) go through 80lb first hand. Imagine what a big fish could do. Why risk potentially losing the fish of a lifetime, an expensive lure and ruining your day for a fish that is not leader shy?

Yeah, thats why its a good idea (if you want to use and have the benefits of flouro) to at the very least use around a 20-40 lb mono leader while doing so. Should be more than good enough to handle northern pike. Gets a little scarier with musky, but the 40lb leader should do the job. I once used 12 lb line (with no leader) and caught what had to have been at least 40 pike one year and the line never snapped off once. The line was so unbelievably beat up on recollection on it I can hardly believe it to this day. It did snap off the next year when I was trying to reel in a bowfin though. I was just a kid back then and would never do so again, its just not worth the risk.

I use either Aqueteko Knot 2 Kinky single strand or 7 strand. For musky I use 50lb and pike I use 30lb or 50lb. The single strand is good for bucktails, gliders, top water and any "walk the dog" action lure. The 7 strand is good for everything thing else, like large plastics (musky medussas). Lots of musky fisherman use 100lb+ wire but I dont think any more than 50lb is necessary. I used to make my own but now you can buy them pre-made, I just replace the stock snap with a SA stay lok snap #3. I have yet to have one break or come apart.

I dont like fluoro, I understand the reason for using it and at 200lbs I doubt even the biggest musky could bite though it. But musky aren't leader shy. So I'd rather use something that I know will not get break under any circumstance. Wire leaders also tend to be more durable. They don't get sun rot, aren't damaged by bug spray/sun screen and don't get nicked by rocks or teeth. My personal belief is that the fluoro leaders are just a new trend or pushed by the industry and they offer little to no advantages over wire. I also don't trust line companies to tell the whole truth.

For frogging id get a fairly heavy uglystick eliete and an abu garcia black or silver max. Tack in some 40 or 50 pound power pro and you're ready to frog. You might want a nicer rod to feel bites better but the ugly stick eliete has more carbon than normal ugly stick but still has a bit of fiberglass so you will be hard pressed to break it.

This is what I always do, fast and dead simple. Trying to bash the head on a rock just feels weird, only did that doing conservation work when we were simply killing invasives and not keeping them.

It seems every single local water is fished from sunrise to sunset

I have an advantage being one of the few fly fishermen so I can follow the slabs as they get pressured out into the lilies but it's getting dire. The structure of local ponds causes the fish to nest right up next to boardwalks and bridges so the spawn gets the shit fished out of it too

The way to avoid this kind of shit is to find a river backwater because most normalfags avoid them because of muh bugs. I once found a spot where a shit ton of fish basically got trapped after some major flooding died down and was basically large enough to be considered a lake. There hasnt been a fishing spot before it or since where I've caught so many fish. Literally every 4 casts I'd catch a fish (which were mostly pike and the occassional bass). The most amazing thing about it was that it was always the best fishing when the sun was beating down on me and during the summer. I literally had a floater (resembling a crappie) that was so beat up from tooth marks that half the paint must have been wipped out because of it and even had a couple hook points broken clean off. Despite that, it still just kept chugging along and catching fish. Cant remember where it went though, I honestly miss it so much. It was my favorite lure of all time.

Got a hand reel and put I dunno like 150 or so yds of mono on and tied on a swivel, but then I realized some of the rigs I was going to do have a bullet weight above the swivel, is it okay to just have another length of line with the weight and another swivel, then the fluoro leader? Also what's my best bet for inshore saltwater, things like flounder, trout, reds, fishing from the shore it's muddy/sandy bottom lots of grass and reeds and shit near some old pilings and a rock jetty.

I have never had a hook of any brand fail to do what I asked of it so I need a lot of convincing that it matters

I spend hundreds of dollars on the material to make spoons and spinners (I sing this instead of saints and sinners). oh also i forgot to post about this rod that im rebuilding other than i did the final finishing coat of glue.

the aircel is a true to weight line, and the magnum is 15 grains from being a true to weight 7 weight line. i'm thinking a true to weight 8 weight line will cast perfectly on this rod. im just not sure if i want to get a fairly standard taper full intermediate taper for streamer and popper fishing smallies with or wthout polyleaders, go for a skagit head, or try to make some frankenstein shooting head out of a cheap 10 weight line and wind up with a shooting head for overhead casting that can also throw a single hand spey cast in a pinch with interchangeable tips from a 12 foot floating tip (made of the tip of the line we cut off in the process) and some 12 foot sink tips i can have a sick little set up for smallies (assuming it works)
if i fuck up, thats $35 ill never get back, if i dont then i have a cool little thing.

Yeah that might be true (never tried them) but the hooks alone are pretty tough and pretty sharp for a cheap price as well. Of course, there is no denying that there are much sharper brands but those hooks are a lot less durable.

I don't know about that trout but when salmon come in to spawn they will soon begin to decay so while they look for a mate, the longer it take the more rotted and discolored it becomes. You can hook into a fish that is barely even alive but it is and it looks like its been dead for days.

Why dont people keep and eat "roughfish"? It honestly makes no sense. Even the boney rough can essentially be deboned by scoring or by smoking them. I have eaten saugeye and carp suckers before before and they don't taste any different than a walleye. The saugeye I didnt even have to score either, it was practically boneless. Also, bowfin tastes amazing. I honestly have never tasted a fish I have hated before (protip, almost every fish tastes good the only fish I dislike is atlantic cod) and not wanting to take the pressure off of bait fish (thus helping the "game fish") is really stupid and makes absolutely no sense. The rough fish just keep getting bigger and bigger and are easily outcompeting the game fish, which is exactly the reason why game fishing are getting smaller and smaller, because of pure stupidity.

If you guys had the skill to make lures what would you make?
I would make a 1/8 or 1/6oz finesse sized lipless crankbait with a marabou skirt so that it looks like a Betta fish and have only one treble hook on the rear.
Idea would be to slow retrieve it just fast enough to wiggle and the marabou helps give it a large profile for fish to key in on without adding weight.
