Mexican here. I'm thinking about acquiring some land in yhe US and building a cabin and living /out/. I have roughly 100k to spend. Any thoughts?

Real estate guy here. You could get yourself set up with a piece of land and a cabin for 100k, in many cases even cheaper than that. It would probably be best if you just bought a premade one, then you might be able to finance the purchase, since the interest rates are super low.

But I'm curious about the plan afterwards. What will you be doing there? And what will you do for income?

Honestly, New Mexico could be nice, especially up north in the southern Rockies (Sangre de Christos, up by Santa Fe) Lots of forest, land and ample opportunity for outdoor activities (fishing, skiing and such) And not only is it close to Mexico so you could visit family, there's lots of air force bases and such there too, so employment is less of an issue.

You can buy up some nice, green land on the east face of the Sandias and be within an hour or so commute to Albuquerque, if you're concerned about employment.

Thanks anon. I always thought that AZ and NM were all desert but it seems that´s not the case. I have a buddy (American) that lives in North Carolina and he tells me there is good land up there, but I´m not sure

There is lots of desert, but there's forest too. It's mostly dry but it's still beautiful country.

Another nice spot could be along the bosque (forest along the river) but the prices for land and especially land with houses on it is pretty high, especially in certain spots, but if you find a good lot, a house in a place like Corrales or Los Ranchos de Albuquerque could be a nice place to set up, if you're looking for river access and/or nice, relatively green area. The only problems with river land is the previously mentioned price and that you'll be able to see your neighbors and the lots tend to be smaller, since the Bosque area is mainly agrarian (or wealthy people who buy horses and LARP as cowboys) so it's much more akin to a small farming town than a cabin innawoods, but you can still find a lot and build a house on it.
