Worse than fucking mosquitos, they will follow you for miles down the trail and they are very difficult to swat, you will have a bunch of them nesting in your hair until they start biting at your scalp and you have to dig them out. Mosquitos are usually not terrible on the trail if you keep moving, and if you bring coils they shouldn't be too much of a problem at the site. Deer flies are the worst trail insect. I know how bad mosquitos can get too, I've stayed at sites where you're practically breathing them in. I still detest deer flies more.
