>>1860944My father took me fishing quite a bit, lots of hiking trips in Texas and New Mexico too.
Rafting once in Colorado with my brother and him is one of the fondest memories I have.
We tried to go camping one time and I just remember being miserable It was somewhere in NM I was overheating and tired and he wanted to hike a trail and he locked me out of the car and left me there for a couple hours. I must have been about 7 maybe 9 at most. I can't remember why I was so upset, but I ruined the whole trip he had been planning for a month.
I grew to like camping later on, but since my parents divorced so early I never really got the chance to have a good camping trip with him.
I remember in Arkansas I caught this small mouth bass and he cooked it up for breakfast with eggs on the side, toast, and my aunt's homemade crab-apple jelly. One of the best meals I can remember.
He died a couple years ago. I still haven't been able to force myself to go fishing since then. I just know it won't feel the same.
At least I can hold on to few really good memories... I just wish I was a tougher kid because then I would have had a few more to hold on to.
