Any female /out/s?
I want to go multiday backpacking alone but I’m unsure how safe that would be. Usually I go with a friend but nowadays a lot of people are significantly more lazy since the start of covid and I can’t stand staying at home all the time.
Opinions? Should I just carry a spooky knife?

Aren't there websites for meeting other females for outdoor activities/traveling?

Also I've came across a woman that met a guy on tinder just to go /out/ with her requirements, she met him a few days beforehand just to be sure he's OK and have experience with walking for days. There's probably a better place to meet than fucking tinder but w/e.

I used to live with a girl who went hiking alone all the time and she never had any issues. If you’re worried about people I’d probably just avoid very popular trails. The more unusual or isolated a person’s route is, the less likely they are to bother you, because they likely just want to be alone outdoors too.

I’ve definitely had situations where it was extremely uncomfortable. Ex: man who kept asking to camp together, asking if he can sleep in my tent because it’s “cold”, men lingering around me until my friend shows up, asking where I’m headed then following behind, etc. I might just be paranoid and they might have no bad intentions but I can never be too sure.

Am male, but depending on where you go, I've run into shifty dudes before. There's a reason I prefer to go way /out/, but sometimes you just want a quick day hike. I always OC my pistol, so I've never run into a situation where I was scared.

I backpack alone five or six times a year. The biggest thing to remember is that animals aren't your biggest threat. Injuries on the trail and other people are.
Try to let three to four people who are very close to you know where you plan to be, the trails you're going to be on and when you should be back. Don't post about it on social media or tell anyone but those trusted people. Most murders or rapes are commited by people the victim knew. You don't want to let that potential person know that youre going to be alone in the middle of the wild.
I always carry several spare batteries and a gps tracker. I use the garmin foretrex and it's never let me down. Try to get in the habit of sending out your coordinates when you can.
Don't let other hikers you meet know where youre going to sleep. Don't light a fire at night or broadcast where youre sleeping. It sucks but it is what it is.
Any other advice i can give you is just general trail safety and isn't specific to gender.

You're not paranoid at all; no normally functioning, self-respecting, self-aware man does that kind of shit. So yes you encountered some hyperautists. You should definitely stay vigilant and distrusting of strangers, and maybe instead of a knife (which is dodgy to fight with, especially when you can be overpowered easily) you could bring pepper spray or if in the USA, a gun.

If you're scared of people then bring a weapon. What other advice is there to give? If someone's doing something malicious, you tell them to stop, and if they don't then you give them a reason to stop, and if they still don't then you show them why they should have stopped. A weapon should be used as a deterrent first and foremost, so if possible try to wear it visibly, be it a knife or a gun.
But realistically as has been pointed out the biggest danger isn't people it's the environment. Bringing a weapon is mostly just going to be peace of mind than an actual help.

I dunno, pepper spray is very effective at blinding a person. They can still move but it's hard for them to do anything if they can't see you. I'd imagine it'd be even more potent with bear spray. You can look up Youtube videos that demonstrate how pepper spray is the most effective self-defense weapon outside of firearms. It's not perfect, but with spray and a knife you at least have a fighting chance. Of course gun trumps everything, so you could always consider carrying if you're able.

From what I understand, bear spray is weaker than human spray since it's meant more to scare the bear than incapacitate it. Human spray is meant to incapacitate and temporarily blind.

Bear spray is still a valid weapon, and at the very least, a means to show your attacker that you mean business and are much more trouble than it's worth. It'll be hard for them to fight back unless they're also armed, but having the first strike is a major benefit. And don't forget to use your surroundings- sticks and stones are time-honored, effective weapons.

Read the reviews and expect to pay about 120$+ if you can. Maybe check what network they use to see if it's compatible with the areas you plan to be in. A good tracker will last years. I know, guns are scary, but they are cheap for their level of protection. Bear mace won't save you. A knife won't save you unless you have hand to hand combat training. You could try a crossbow but they are unwieldy. Nothing beats the protection value of a 9mm pistol.
