Les Hiddins on god tier. The original bush tucker man. He catalogued all of the bush foods and poisons in the outback by learning from the Abos, then wrote the Army survival guide, which was in turn adopted by the SAS, Aus and UK. Vietnam veteran. Happy, chill bloke. Bush Tucker Man is on YouTube, and some torrents. First series is the best by far.

I don't get this. maybe he's come a long way from what I remember but, it's usually just Cana-duhs that like him. he's pretty much just hiking with 80lbs of camera gear and no food. one of his first episodes, he builds a fire near an embankment and then sleeps on the OTHER SIDE of it, right near a lake. he even somewhat insulated himself from the fire with rocks that reflected heat away from him toward the embankment, then bitched a bit about being chilly all night.

Ray Mears is pretty solid but really more like a Bushcrafty sort of thing.

Proenneke was okay but, again not survival, just a guy living innawoods. he also had a shit ton of tools, a boat, and contact with the outside world at will.

Bear Grylls is an entertainer. what the fuck do you want from him? if you think his show is anything more than that, you are retarded.

Bruce Parry just likes to bang 12 year old girl mud people.

Have any of you ever watched Lars Monsen from Norway? He is above god tier.

He is not about survival, but about chilling in nature and going on expeditions. He has crossed Canada which took him 2,5 years. He has crossed Alaska, Norway and many other things.

He is into hunting, fishing, campfires and nature. Now he has gone into dog sledgeing because his back and knees are fucked from walking to many days with too heavy backpacks. His ambition is to win the iditarod.

Ray mears is close to god tier. His attitude towards bushcraft and survival really resonates with me.

Im never quite sure if Cody is awesome or just ok, there are times where some of the stuff he does or says is just like, what the duck, and other times he's pure brilliance. Iv heard nothing but good things about his books though, must acquire.

I read both of his books, they are pretty much identical in the long drawn out desire for water. He deals a lot with the emotions of stress and what it does to the body, the feel of those chapters are like sitting in a clinical psychology class. He breaks things open, dissects them and explains why things are the way they are and sometimes he doesn't mix words.
The first book is all about basic wilderness survival and how to be found. The second deals with SHTF in a more urban/suburban environment and how to get through till services are restored.
Good books I highly recommend.

Exactly. He's not traveling around with some faggot camera crew that he eats and sleeps with off film. He's out there in the wild trying to live while also having to operate a shitload of cameras.

I could probably stand to watch one of these shows if they did away with trying to create the illusion that the host is "fighting for survival" and simply embraced the fact that they are filming a show and showed ways to provide yourself with food, water, shelter and fire when innawoods.

Just so happens that i was rewatching Season 1 all day today, pop /out/, and here he is. Survivorman, to me at least, seems to be a decent, honest show that's enjoyable to watch. It isn't a how-to-survival guide by any means - it's just Les being thrown into bumfucknowhere, and he tries to get out in a week on his own accord. A few little tricks and tips scattered throughout as well. Good stuff.
