What pisses me off is the insistence that there’s a single, best solution to some problems when clearly it’s dependent on varying situations in differing environments.

Also knives. Anything bigger than a victorinox Classic is only being taken on a hike because that person enjoys a big knife. It’s not needed for hiking.

There's more to /out/ than hiking though, hunting daggers are rarely small and not because hunters want to wave a wannabe sword around You need a large bladeto proces the animal, simple as. Even something as simple a butchering/cutting meat to grill can be messy hassle if you have a pinky-sized blade.
I agree on /out/ being polluted by anons who should be jerking off on /k/, but saying a victorinox classic covers all needs is retarded, even just for hiking. My go to for long hikes is a block of cheese, and some king of cured/dried meat, good luck slicing into a block of iberico with a swiss knife.

No need to try to pass it of as some extreme shit, virtually anyone who's not morbidly obese can do it (vertigo can be a problem on some trails too, but basically it's one of the most accessible hobby there is).

Not the Swiss Army knife guy, but pic related has hiked more on single trips than you will in a lifetime, is a professional guide, and is basically a hiking guru. Look up his gear list and the route he took for his Yukon expedition. Or his Great Western Loop. Both of those are routes people talked about for years but never completed.
