I have 34 days to get my Rav4 ready to live in through the winter, I will be homeless for as long as I can bear it. I work and make enough money to cover a rent but i am trying to pay off college debt quicker. I believe I have the mental fortitude to get through this and now I am planning out how the fuck it will work.

Questions:
> How do I insulate the car to let me sleep in it at night? What sleeping gear will I need?
> How do I blackout the windows
> How do I keep track of clothes? I'm thinking of getting a 100/month storage unit for my closet and essential tools/assets I have. Visit once a week to grab a new set of 5 shirts for the week at work.
> What kind of small heater can I run through the night? What kind of battery will I need?

just get some bullshit high r-value insulating material and stick it everywhere. use a propane heater. just know that there is no good solution. you’re going to be cold no matter what because you’re forced to compromise between heat and moisture build up. you’ll probably get 20 degrees warmer than outside at best

Heaters give you the option of draining your battery, draining your gas tank, lighting your stuff on fire. or killing you with carbon monoxide. Either move somewhere warm or insulate your body with blankets.
Honestly it sounds like you haven't thought this through very much at all. What are you going to do for power? Where are you going to shit? Are you planning on heating or refrigerating your meals at all? Sponge baths? Where will you park?

Space Blankets and duct tape would be more than enough insulation. Don’t overthink it, I used to live in a car and got through winter in New England with two blankets. If you’ve got some spending money invest in a Carhartt coat, I was overheating in mine.

If you’re serious about wanting to hook up a heater, look into a dual battery system. The auxiliary battery can be set up to run a heater (via a power inverter) while the primary battery just starts the car, but both are charged from the same alternator. You might need a high output alternator for that.

We blacked out the windows on our car during a two week road trip with very thick fabric (I think it was for pull down shades) and suction cups. It wasn’t perfect. I’ve seen others using magnets on the outside of the car.

For sleeping you’ll want a sleeping bag that’s rated for the coldest temperature you expect. You’ll also want some kind of mattress. Anti-fatigue mats are ok but not very plush. Closed cell foam is cheap, but again not very soft. Inflatable is more comfortable but a pain in the ass.

im a salaried employee at a 24/7 manufacturing plant, I can park in the parking lot...theres also a 24 hour gym im looking into. Either will work for that.

For power I am looking at a 100Ah battery, and for heat an electric blanket. It might not be enough but I think with a 0 degree bag i can make it through the night.

For meals Im already a lazy fuck and eat out all the time, ive found ways to do it cheap..2 for 5 chickens at wendys, free coffee at panera, 2$ breakfast at mcdonals etc..I've got it down to $10-15 a day on food comfortably with no time apart from the drive through or a quick trip to the grocery.

I have 34 days to prepare, I think I can do this. Worst case I puss out after 1 month and rent a place. I'm just trying to save the 800-1k a month and put it straight to college debt.

The least expensive non-homeless option runs me at 500 a month for a room in a house of degenerates. My current cost is 900 for my own place. I think the only way to know what the cost of living in the car is takes actually doing it and tracking the budget. If im smart I think I can save an extra 400-700 a month unless something nuts happens.

Part of the problems though are the logistics of switching my address on my paychecks, and receiving mail. I might lose a bit of money setting up a PO box if that will even work.

It's not hard, anon. Don't bother with heaters or anything because realistically cars aren't well insulated and it's a large volume that will need heated so you'll just end up wasting money. Just buy a well insulated sleeping bag or blankets if you want to be comfy. Sellotape a couple of bin bags to your windows to black out quickly. I don't think you'll really need a storage unit. Just don't keep unnecessary stuff and you'll be able to pack it all in the boot of your car. In terms of food, don't get shitty fast food all day everyday, buy a gas stove and milsurp mess tins instead. Incredibly cheap, very easy to use and you'll be grateful to eat something homemade. You can also use it to boil water for a cheap simple iron to iron your clothes for work without electricity. Remember to park where it will be warmer so if the weather takes a sudden turn and will be below freezing try parking next to a large body of water because it will be warmer than the air.

You just need to get accustomed to it then all of a sudden you won't care so much that you're living in a car.

You need to change how you eat before you do this. Stay with your current place, put out an ad for a roommate if you want, but if you're spending $15 on food a day (it's probably more than you realize) that's $450 a month. You could eat for $30 a month and endure far less hardship and wasted time than you would by living in your car.
