I dont understand the laphraoig hate. When my gf showed it to me we first called it the seagulls armpit, but subsequent weeks and subsequent glasses revealed a truly complex and delightful flavor. Citrus notes done right I'd say. Now one of my favorite liquors alongside Pusser's rum, Jameson, Redbreast, etc

Honestly that's my go to when I have the money to drink. Normally I drink caliber vodka from Walmart because I am poor as shit and it's $9 for 1.75L. As for taking alcohol /out/ I tend to just poor whatever I am drinking into a 20 ounce coke bottle and go from there. It already came out of plastic, not too worried about putting it back in plastic.

How much are you guys paying for Laphroaig? I live in Scotland and I can get bottles for 18 pounds and that's even with our minimum pricing. For reference, the cheapest vodka of the same size as Laphroaig is 13-14 pounds due to minimum pricing.

Pic related is drink of choice. I'm not an experienced /out/ist or anything but I've never had problems with just bringing the bottle itself. I always put it amongst the clothing in my ruck so nothing can impact it. Beyond maybe plastic bagging it just in case, what's wrong with just the bottle?

There's your problem Anon. I recommend a metal flask, and washing it pretty thoughouly beforehand. I have a cheap metal one I got for like $20, and it's basically unbreakable. When it dies, I already have a backup.

In terms of what I put in it, I prefer dark rums. To be clear, not spiced rum, because spiced is usually shit rum. But an actual nice, dark rum. Dunno how much it costs outside Aus, but Beenleigh is a prime example. Does most of the things whisky would, but a lot easier to drink straight, and a lot more approachable for a beginner. It's naturally a little sweeter than even a bourbon, and generally tastes very slightly vanilla-ry.

No bullying is permissable here. Jimmy is my go to when I want something decent, but don't want to spend a shitload. Honestly the most solid shit there is. If you ever have any money to throw around, the black bottle jimmy is honestly one of my favourite bourbons.

People hate on peaty whiskeys like they hate on ipa's. Overrated. Nothing wrong with enjoying heavy sweet peat smoke. There is a limit, but the quarter cask hits all the right notes for 35 bucks.

Yuro here and I can confirm that 26c is at the upper limit of what I consider comfortable. For summer 20-22c is good, but I prefer colder rest of the year, to be cosy in nice layers. 30 and above I basically shut down, thankfully where I live that only lasts 2 weeks at most

Pretty much this. Overrated. It's not about "not being able to handle" peat whiskeys, but there's only so much boggy dirt taste you can tolerate before saying yea nah, forget this. In the old days, (certain) whiskeys were only peaty because it was unavoidable.

It's the same principle with eating bull testicles or drinking shitty asian hooch with an entire fucking snoke drownded in it. "Look at me, I can do something fucking disgusting with a straight face!" OK then, fantastic. I'm going to enjoy something that actually tastes good.

I'm more of a snob when it comes to barreling or the grain percentages. And I do like a nice spicy rye.

Quarter cask is a laphroag I like. Even the old snob at whiskey.com sucks it dry. It’s one of the few peaty whiskeys that I like. Usually peat is overdone. Never liked their 10 year though. It’s fucking hard to find decent whiskey at good prices in Japan and they regularly have the quarter cask for 35 bucks at my local liquor store for some reason.

Also habushu with the Okinawan viper in it is actually pretty tasty. The northern Mamashu with the viper in it is used more for topical medicine than drinking because of the poison. Don’t hate on snake liquors.

Odin himself suggests bringing little to no alcohol.
Personally I would bring a standard scotch flask if anything at all, for any number of nights up to maybe a week. Enough for an occasional swig to put the fire in your lungs, as per purpose.

Any /out/ists ever try out a titanium flask? Seems like it would be an ideal /out/cohol container:

Aliexpress has them for an affordable price if you can wait for the shipping and a few Amazon sellers have some of them imported into the US already for not much of a mark up. Anybody have any experience with them?

I'd buy a Japanese made Snowpeak titanium flask if I had that kind of disposable income. Other than that the only options for titanium flasks seems to be Chink shit that comes out of the same few factories.

You are probably right. The cheaper chinkshit flasks seem to be titanium alloys, only around 89% titanium and mixed with aluminum. The presence of aluminum would immediately bring in to question two of the benefits:

So unless you really need the weight savings (roughly 45% the weight per comparable strength with lower grade steels most likely to be used) steel does seem to be the superior cost effective choice. The Unalloyed titanium used by companies like Snow Peaks and Vargo seems to objectively be the best all around choice if cost is no issue, however.

What's a good stainless steel water flask of around 700-1000ml? Ideally flat design?
I have a surplus aluminium bottle which comes with a handy belt attachment. Even though I don't use it often it's still worrying about the alum.

aluminum giving you dementia is an old wives tale, scientifically proven to not actually be a thing. all the cases of dementia blamed on aluminum cookware were most likely caused by all the lead in the air from the tetraethyllead in petrol at the time
