>>1871919>>1871918>>1871831>I hate dams because they fuck up that pretty valley>nuclear power never messes up anythingYou know nuclear power doesn't just pop up from nothing right? You seem to be ignoring the huge ass mines for uranium, the refinery which uses literally tons of highly caustic chemicals for processing the uranium and produces plenty of waste product, the power plant itself which pulls large amounts of water and in the case of coastal plants puts warm water back into the ocean fucking up the local marine ecosystem, the problem of storage of the spent but still hazardous fuel, the fact that no state in America is willing to let the feds store the stuff there and many local jurisdictions fight tooth and nail to stop it even being transported through, and also the very small but still relevant chance of meltdowns.
Then there is the desalination which requires huge amounts of electricity, rather than producing it like a dam does. In addition to the fact that these plants pump high salinity brine back into the ocean which settles towards the ocean floor and fucks up all the marine life there.
I'm not saying I hate nuclear power or anything, I agree that the US should invest more into it, but acting like it is God's gift to the environment and ignoring the drawbacks is bs too.
