firestarter thread?
what does /out/ use for a reliable and effective firestarter?
i use a rope lighter for a few reasons
>windproof
>fuel can't expire/evaporate on you
>literally just a metal tube and striker
>all you need is cotton wick to use it and its extremely cheap and easy to find
>most people would not take the supplies of cotton wick >long after gas and oil production stops i can still light fires

A cheap storm lighter with another cheap stormlighter as backup, literally less than 5 bucks each and has never failed me even in rain, wind and snow.

Bic lighter. Reliable as fuck. Even if the mechanism gets fucked up you can just pull out the flint and use the fuel.

I bring a cigarette lighter.
My backup is another cigarette lighter in a zip lock bag.
In case of emergency, I have a third cigarette lighter in a zip lock bag in my emergency bag.

I aint never been shown how to use a flint and I've never had two cigarette lighter s fail at once- even if they do I can get a spark out of an empty or damaged one.
Better to take what you can use than to take something you can't, also a lighter can dry out damp tinder saving you time trying to find something better or drying shit out.

Rope lighters have little to no flame and a weak ember. Might be useful if you made yourself a more compact one.

ordered a .5"x5" chinesium rod on ebay, gonna make some hardwood handles and make 2 rods out of it when it arrives
meanwhile i will practice using quartz and steel and bowdrills
