If you want the style of LL Beans, where they replace the entire lower part of the boot, look at Schnee's (heavier), or Lundhag (lighter) from Sweden.
I find myself using a boot less and less, and often just replace it with Outdoor Research gaiters, or even wool surplus puttees, but my favorite are still my Alfa M-77 Norwegian Army Boot. Every one of these boot threads they get recommended again, and again, while people bring in their welt larp boots. I'll pass on knee damage from these heavy tall heel boots. Red Wings! The Heritage line is made for fashion. I see wildland firefighters switching more to lightweight boots for comfort, and not destroying their bodies, even if they are less durable. Every thread though, you have the guys recommending their, "Walking Dead", kit with welted behemoths. I'm with you, if the world ends, and I have to figure out how to resole or sew my own moccasins, in which case, I may as well also go barefoot enough for callous monsters.
Until then, I want my body to last.
If the world did end, and I had to stick to my clobber monsters, Limmer all the way. Lighter weight, very little stitching. I don't even know how to welt on a new outsole, or the difficulty, as these are norwegian welted and I hear that that is difficult to work on, but that Vibram sole would keep kickin' for a few years like any other pair of 8" Larp loggers.
