What kind of animals do you have in your area and what measures do you have to take to protect yourself?

I actually just ran into a doe and her 2 juveniles on my trail run today, I didn't have to do much else than wait for her and her kiddos to get the fuck out of my way.

In the mountains, rodents can be a problem. They will chew through your gear to get at your food. I once saw a dude whose boot had the whole upper eaten off while he was sleeping
Your salt can be attractive to animals too, so piss on a rock instead of a tree so the deer wont eat the bark off

possums, snakes, kangaroos. sometimes brumbies, pigs and wild dogs. Don't need to do anything to protect myself.

I am fortunate to have no dangerous wildlife in my area. Just south of where I live is black bear country and occasional rattlers - and even those generally won't fuck with you.
