New Jersey is objectively the worst state on the east coast for /out/ing. It's just sandy woods, some underwhelming rivers and lakes. And the god forsaken Jersey Shore.

The pine barrens are huge. Miles and Miles of slightly stunted pine trees and sand. People hide dead bodies out there, home to some crazies. You can do anything out there it gets so isolated. Surprising for how densely populated the state is.

New Jerseyan here. The Pine Barrens, while flat, are a very unique area and you’d be hard-pressed to find a spot like it anywhere else. Also, northwestern New Jersey has some great trails and mountains up by the Delaware Water Gap.
That’s to say nothing about all the great beaches we have.
A true /out/doors man can find the outdoors anywhere. Cope harder, faggot.

I totally agree. I had just as much fun hiking in Louisiana as I do in the PNW. The idea that the outdoors revolves around scenic overlooks is nonsense which was started on the west coast in the 1980’s when backpacking became a big business.

Former New Jerseyan here. Northwest of the state is really nice - basically Pennsylvania. Town I'm from had 3 or 4 nesting pairs of Bald Eagles and more bears than you can count.

Is it like being in upstate NY or Maine? No. But there's some beautiful places and difficult terrain if you look for it.

No it does not. Delaware, in addition to being the worst state in the Union for countless other reasons, is by far the worst state for /out/. Even Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Iowa beat it. Being from the Delmarva peninsula, I think Delaware is one of the most boring states in the country. At least we in the Maryland and Virginia parts of the peninsula have the Chesapeake, islands, marshes and beaches. DE has beaches but I've never once heard somebody who wanted to go to Rehoboth Beach who wasn't a literal cocksucking faggot

Yea nj fucking sucks, but you're still selling it short. The northwest has decent out, it's definitely not pennsylvania or ny but it's alright. And the pine barrens are awesome. If you actually had a brain and could appreciate nature for more than duhhh mountainz, you'd see the pineys has some really unique and awesome flora and fauna. And if you like foraging wild blueberries, it really can't be beat.

Delaware, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are worse
Delaware is arguably the worst /out/ place in all of north America. You are straight up better off on any other section of the Delmarva Peninsula than Delaware. At least the rest has Chesapeake.
NJ is still not particularly good though. It has the most boring stretch of AT once you leave High Point and the Pine Barrens are not as unique as you think when you leave the state and realize that even Texas has larger swaths of Piney preserve. Northwest NJ is just a less good version of the PA right across the border. Easier to walk on though, fuck Tuscarora sandstone

Recently did half the Batona Trail, had an excellent time. Each road crossing led into an area with new growth patterns making every five miles or so different from one another. Can confirm Pine Barrens are a great time.
