And, speaking of someone who has a thigh holster for his HK USP .45 with Streamlight TL-3 on it... tacticool faggotry isn't necessary for a fucking bear.
I have never had a revolver jam on me. Ever. Is it pretty much fucked on the rare occasion a jam does happen? Sure. But I've never had that happen, and I guarantee I've been shooting longer and more than you.
Only malfunctions any of my autos have had were due to underpowered ammo, which isn't an issue in a revolver. But then, I break in my guns, keep them clean and well lubricated, and don't go dropping them in sand and mud. While I firmly agree on autos for problems with two-legged critters, especially the kind that come in packs, for big, dangerous animals I want a revolver. A light primer strike or other issue in an auto requires a failure drill before I can get a shot off, and the time to deal with that is not while a bear is mauling the shit out of you; a light primer strike or whatever on a revolver is solved by pulling the trigger until it goes bang.
An automatic I consider adequate for grizzly would, at a minimum, be a hot loaded 10mm or .45 Super. Both are less powerful than a .44 Magnum, and a .44 revolver is a lot handier than a Desert Eagle or some other meme bullshit.
