What are good MRE alternatives?
I mean one of those complete ones with the stove and everything.
I can make a stove from a can though the fuel is a problem a bit.
Any of you have any links to good DIY MREs and kits?

I just go to wal-mart and buy a shit ton of those $1 instant pastas, mash potatoes, macaroni and cheese, etc. it's not that complicated or hard.

The patrician's choice is to buy a freeze drier then make your own custom MRE's out of any meal you want. Just cook a full meal like chicken, mac and cheese, and peas. Mix it all up then freeze dry it and seal it up in mylar bags. You can freeze dry pretty much anything, make your favorite foods or meals, all you need to do is add a little water.

Good for 25 years.

French rations are great. Take up about as much space in your pack as an MRE, but it contains breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drink mixes, a folding stove with fuel and storm matches, etc. A full day of food, and it's all delicious.

British 24hr rations are similar, but not quite as tasty. I have a Spanish ration, but haven't tried it yet. Galician stew and squid in ink sauce.

The danish 24h rations have just been updated.
RAW Bite and protein bars have been dumped for some dry ass granola bars.
Beef/chicken jerky has been added.
A dry bag of soup has been added (I just mix it into the wet pouch dinner)

Depending on your activity level, it can be very easy to burn calories. For example, if you're a long distance runner you can easily be eating 4000+ in a day. I've had a good number of runs myself where I'm definitely burning at least over 1500 calories and then I come home and I lift as well as going to work.
