>>1894950Keep in mind what cardinal direction will take you to safety (either back the way you came or to nearby civilization).
Knowing which direction you need to go, you can orient yourself by looking at the sun. If you're in the northern hemisphere then the sun will be in the south sky, rising in the east and setting in the west. So if it's later afternoon then the sun will be west-southwest. So, if you need to go north for safety, you can angle yourself in a general-90-degree-angle with the sun to your left and slightly behind you. Obviously this won't be exact and you need to remember that as time passes the sun will move so you need to keep that in mind if you re-orient yourself later.
This is generally enough to save you in any situation where you're not lost in the absolute middle of nowhere or in mortal danger from the wildlife/weather.
Obviously if you can't see the sun from where you are either due to trees or clouds then focus on short-term survival until the weather clears/you can find a clearing at noon. Remember that you can survive for a long time without food, but you only have a few days before dehydration fucks you, so don't worry about finding food, focus on finding drinkable water.
