I've driven through the sandhills a few times and saw a few pretty places but it seemed like it was mostly private ranchland that'd be fun if you had a horse and a good relationship with the rancher, but not much good otherwise. Granted I was a degenerate tourist who didn't get far from the road because I had to be in Utah by nightfall. Pic related, poking around in an abandoned basement here was the most memorable part of Nebraska for me.
