Have any of you done it before?
Have you found any fossils while camping?
Besides the obvious stuff like a geology hammer, do you pack differently?

Yes, Jurassic Coast - Lyme Regis/Charmouth is a great place. Lots of ammonites, belemnites and even ichthyosaur bits if you are lucky(I found one there, it's cool).

Also went to Germany recently near the Holzmaden area, lots of ammonites as well in east to access quaries.

Closest I’ve done is find shark teeth and arrowheads in creeks after it rains. How do you guys extract the fossils and where do you to do so?

It’s in southwest England, and it’s this beach with a huge clay cliff that fossils just fall out of. You’ll see rocks split open with fossils you can take

Sounds comfy. I'm lucky enough to live in British Columbia, so I've got access to lots of different beds, and we're damned certain there's a lot waiting to be discovered up north.

Some stuff is eroded out of the the matrix by the sea when you find it on the beach. No prep needed. Other stuff is better to just leave it in the matrix. When you really want to prep out stuff you can buy an air compressor and a "prep pen" but those can be expensive. A dremel might do as well.

The only fossils I've ever found are marine fossils; the curly snail shell-like ones are fucking EVERYWHERE around here, it takes zero effort to find them. Occasionally I also find fossil bivalves. The only non-marine fossil I've ever found is a fossilized scorpion.

I own a few moasaur teeth, trilobites, and fragments of dinosaur bones, but I had to buy all of those.

Not intentionally but I found a cool fern fossil while hiking up a ridge near Estes Park. I gave it to my son.

I've found a lot of fossils climbing various mountains in Alberta. Mostly barnacles and the like but still pretty neat.

I mostly just go after the stuff that I know for a fact no one would bother to come collect due to being common. Geologist hammer, brush, maybe a rocksaw if it's easy to access. It's mostly about getting it out in one piece and wrapping it up so you can take it home and go to work with brushes and fine tools. It really depends how anchored it is.

I'd suggest old riverbeds since they're sort of just falling out of the banks. If it's really buried into a cliffside you'll have a rough time and risk damaging anything else that might be behind the rock face too.

I got lucky up in Herkemer NY and found a bunch of plant fossils, little ~1cm leaves on a long stalk like a fern, I have it somewhere. I`d be interested to find some trilobytes and shit like OPs pic, any tips?
