For 12wts the limit is about 16lbs, so any drag more than that is kind of redundant. But its a different story for leaders, teeth, coral, debris, shock, scales and strip setting are all factors that could affect your leader choice. Twisted leaders are good for turning over flies and absorbing shock, so you can get away with a lighter leader. They also only have one true point of failure and that's where you attach it to your fly. There are three main kinds of twisted leaders in my experience. One is 2 strands down to 1 strand, 4 strands down to 2 strands and the 2 strand is tied to a swivel, and lastly 4 strand to 2 strand to 1 strand.

The single strand isn't any weaker than the doubled/quadrupled line in terms of break strength because the twisted leader twists and absorbs shock. But you could use 25lb straight mono for bass, 60lb for tarpon and 130lb for gts and be fine but its all personal preference. I can go into the mechanics of why they cast better if you're a fly angler or interested.
