I saw kids at the lake closest to me just chucking shit into the lake seeing if they'd catch anything. They got nothing, but my friend caught a 4.5-5lb bass. The kids had to go home after because they're mom wanted them home.

I have seen ducks, baby geese and squirrels be eaten by pike/musky. Keep in mind esox regularly eat things up to 1/3 of their total length and are able to eat things that are 1/2 their total length. So muskrats, snakes and other esox are not off the menu.

Anybody else out in the suburbs and struggle with not being able to fish some nearby streams/ponds/lakes because there is literally no place to park ? By me there is a lot of pocket woods that are cut off by rail road, highway, etc but the problem is there is just no place to park. Major roads with no shoulders or an apartment or office complex you will get towed are commonly the nearest access point.

I have a bike setup but that's really not helpful when you are trying to throw on your waders to get in the stream. Also these places there is no trail and often muddy and swampy so you would have to ditch the bike somewhere.

I guess the solution is just get inventive with where to park and walk in from but its just a pain in the ass .

Caught this nice 15" 21oz Arctic Grayling today. Biggest one I've ever caught. Didn't fight as much as the little ones, but still a beautiful fish. Glad to find it was a male!

Realistically, how long can I store monofilament in a fridge without any degradation? I'm the type who likes to stock up on stuff in bulk and never have to run out but I don't want to lose a fish due to the line weakening.

Keep it lubricated, with Reel Magic and it should be fine the reason for the line to break down is the line drys. We honestly don't know the life span of the line because we don't know this history of the line like how long the line was at the manufacturer's warehouse before it shipped what kinda temperature it was exposed to and how long it was in the back of the store before it made it to the shelf.

I'm a beginner with a baitcaster and a couple spinning rods in southern Ontario. I'm not looking to get into fly fishing yet, but I still want to try catching trout this fall. Can anyone recommend some beginner friendly methods with spinning rods or am I gonna get skunked? I'm probably going to try the Grand River first if that helps

And also trout magnet grub lures work well. Check the regs, certain types of bait and lures may be banned. There are sections of river where I fish that ban bait including soft plastics - like the grub lures. I like the black and gold panther martin lures in a size 2 assuming the water is clear.

It's pretty simple. If it's small enough to eat and doesn't hurt them, then it's food. The more familiar a fish is with a food source will determine how readily the fish will eat it. Bass in a pond full of bullfrogs will readily eat a frog whereas a bass in a pond without frogs may take a minute to examine a frog before eating it unless a more familiar food source happens to come along.

Llegally there are probably some regs about transporting live fish because retards ruin fisheries by dumping other species in them. There's a lake here in Oregon that they have to poison every 10 years because of retards transporting live fish. If its just your personal pond all I'd say is check the regs and don't get caught.

That being said just don't post about online and you will be fine. It's not illegal to posses native fish on you that are alive. There isn't a single lure you can just plop in the water and catch bass. Find the bass, then find a lure that you can present to them. You can't present a Mepps Black Fury to bass that are holding in a brush pile at 25 feet of water. If the bass are schooling chasing shad like they often are this time of year then flipping a jig at them isn't going to do much either.

Figure out the fish before worrying about what lure to use.

All the lines I mentioned are full 100ft lines so no running line required. I dont use anything with a running line so I cant give any advice based on experience. But airflo ridge and rio gripshooter is what my regular shop carries so they cant be too bad. But I don't see why mono wouldn't work if your on a budget.

What’s the best way to pack out a fresh catch from the backcountry? Do I need to pack in a small cooler full of ice? Or will they stay fresh long enough to make it to the car? Hypothetical situation, it’s 60 minutes from the lake to the car and another 45 minutes to the first store that sells ice. Will the fish be safe to eat after being out that long not packed on ice if cooked properly the next day?

I think galloups flies are a little overrated. I tie both trout flies and striper flies and his flies are way over complicated. Things like flatwings, deceivers and bucktail streamers will all catch big trout and are easier to tie and cast.

I'm off from work till Tuesday so fishing is planned for today, I got $80 left in the bank to get me by till Thursday. I kinda want to do another catch and cook maybe some snapper or a Spainish Mackerel or something else that's still in season, redfish and snook are not in season till next year.

No I'll fillet them at the spot and put meat in a ziploc and keep the ziploc in the ice water. My spot might be packed it's the weekend and the parking area is small costs $10 for I think 5 hours or something and it's a half hour drive so I gotta think some stuff over.
Last time I went there on a weekend no place to park so had to drive like 20 minutes east to another place and that place had a bunch of annoying college kids jumping off the bridge girls walking around with no tops on and I'm trying to record fishing content and not end up with possible underage girls topless in my video.

I cant pick just one, my favorite carp fly is different from my favorite bass fly and my favorite steelhead fly is entirely different, too.
For bass i like a hollow flye tied on an ewg hook because its perfectly weedless and has great movment and profile; i can tie it heavily weighted, weightless, anywgere in between, and even put a rattle on it
My favorite carp fly is a creation of my own that i call a backwards bug
My favorite steelhead fly is an ice dub fuzzle bugger in pink or white

Go for 20, dont bother with flouro; it sucks for knots, its actually less abrasion resistant than normal mono, the fish can see both just about the same, and the difference in sensitivity between 5 feet of mono and 5 feet of flouro is imperceptible.

I take it that is the Pleuger Pres XT? That was probably my first choice. Second was the Mitchell 300 Pro, but no experience with that brand. I was looking at the Shimano Sedona in that pic and people didn't see to like that it had only 3-4 ball bearings and no anti reverse.

It casts pretty well unless you're using a 5wt. It takes about 7-9 plumes or less if you skip the pink highlight. I 100% recommend it for bass/trout and make sure to use a loop knot while fishing it.

I run braid with a fluoro leader most of the time, going after trout primarily and also steelies and salmon when they run. I don't notice a difference between mono and fluoro leaders as far as catching more/less fish, but I've fished some crystal clear lakes where you can see maybe 50ft down using mono with a fluoro leader and the fluoro did indeed disappear in the water much better than mono. That was only 6lb fluoro idk about the heavier stuff.

Musky vs salmon vs steelhead anon here. I decided on steelhead this weekend and musky next weekend. First day and got a fish. First one on the centerpin too. It's easier than I thought to fight a fish on a pin, however the rod absorbs most of the fish's quick runs, giving me time to use my pinky to let off the "drag". That said, as much as the rod helped me, it's not easy setting the hook with a sponge, and I dropped a couple more bites. Not bad for a first of the season fish. Hopefully I can finally get rid of my musky dry spell next weekend. Tight lines anons

Yeah you don't need to soak bait to catch fish in the ocean. Flounder, black sea bass, stripped bass, redfish, weakfish, bluefish, speckled trout, to name a few will all hit lures. Not sure about ocean panfish like spot, croaker, kingfish, etc but I don't see why not.

All else equal on spinning tackle using a smaller diameter line gets you:

#1 Farther casting distance
#2 Better line invisibility (not really sure how big of deal this actually is personally)

Yeah the only downside is I wanted to do some creek fishing but they are 100% going to be blown out. I plan on heading out to some popular lakes and ponds and hopefully have the place to myself.

Just get a 2 piece 7 foot rod. There is no difference in rod sensitivity nowadays. Even with 4 piece fly rods vs 1 piece there is no difference, blank technology and development have come a very long way.

First off, i touched on inferior abrasion resistant, second off, the only thing it does better than nylon is sink, which normal gear doesnt need (the diffetence in sink rate on a 1/2 ounce football jig on mono vs flouro will be negligable at best) and the practical application in fly fishing is limited because its basically only worth while sometimes with dry flies because a sunken leader wont disturb the surface next to a dry fly quite so much

The only situation where i can think of a one piece rod being actually necessary is big game fishing; the kind where you need 40 pounds of drag or more

Imagine taking the best USDM rod maker with the best rod blanks and combining it with the best JDM company. That is Loomis. The rods that Loomis were renowned for before selling to Shimano in the very early 2000's were their salmon stuff. The bass rods that made Loomis what they are today, the BCR803c GLX, the MBR GLX series, those were made when Shimano was apart of Loomis.

I own a lot of their classic rods, a lot of 2016 GLX models, and a lot of Conquests. Their new ones are nicer and better. And doing a quick look at the new warranty program they just put up, it's actually better then their old one. The serial numbers aren't a bad addition.

The xpeditor service was only to be used once per rod. The thing is, how could Loomis know if you did it already if they never had unique serial numbers on their rods?

But that's changed too. They took away the 'once per lifetime of the rod' rule. So just register a new Loomis = you have unlimited times you can use this service now.
