>>190301I'mma' go ahead and confrim those infographics as bullshit. They're just reasonable enough to be plausible, but there's a lot wrong with them.
Lightning: A mid-size stand of even-height trees is good shelter because it keeps you from being the tallest object and you aren't near the tallest object. A single tree is a very bad idea because lightning strikes the tallest object.
If you are stuck in a field, leave the field for better shelter. If you are _actually_ stuck in the field (and I really can't imagine why... maybe you are in the desert?) sit on your pack and hug your knees to your chest, keeping your feet together.
Couple of notes: shallow ditches and caves collect minerals from run-off and are more likely to be struck, and so perhaps counter-intuitively don't make better shelter than flat ground.
Bears: OMG, bears. I don't know a lot about grizzly bears 'cause I'm in the Southeast.. Black bears are quick, powerful animals, but mostly pretty timid. Back away purposefully but not suddenly while looking really big (arms up over your head, possibly holding something). Be loud.
Cliffs: Don't jump off cliffs.
