And as far as remains being found. What if these creatures are closer to human intelligence than we give them credit for and they too dispose of their dead (burying)? Elephants are known to mourn their dead, so the idea of a more evolved species disposing of their dead doesn't seem very far fetched to me.
Just some thoughts. I was interested in everyone's opinions.

Exactly, it's small and people knew about it and it's not immediately obvious to the untrained that it's something remarkable. Bigfoot is huge and it stands out, it's in an area much better surveyed by scientists and there isn't a single bone or hair sample. And absence of predicted evidence IS evidence of absence, even if it isn't absolute proof.

you know as well as I do that question is loaded with fallacy as its impossible. Sure, there are probably small refuges and etc where people have yet to thoroughly explore - but that doesnt explain why there are numerous "sitings" of bigfoot in commonly visited areas yet no definitive proof (scats, bones, etc, etc).

We know where uncontacted tribes are in the middle of the amazon - why dont we know where bigfoot tribes are in out backyard?

While I agree that absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence; having zero proof of existence of something after years and years of people searching is not an absence of evidence. Years of searching to no avail in itself is data that suggests there is no bigfoot. While it may be wrong, its scientifically more valid than trying to argue it might still be there after decades upon decades of searching and still having no evidence that it exists. Sure, it might be, but the chance is astronomically low.

Why I was a kid in Boy Scouts, I was convinced Bigfoot was in the Michigan woods snooping
around our troop's campsite and I'd check for foot prints but never found any.

As an adult, I think Bigfoot could possibly exist in the deepest woods of the Pacific Northwest,
or at least might have existed but died out as Europeans steadily moved West and encroached
upon it's territory.

That said, I still always keep my S&W M686-5 revolver in the tent with me when camping.

I highly doubt you know more about big apes than Grover Krantz, or Jane Goodall. I've been interested in cryptozoology since the early 00s, and most people that have researched these matters are quietly optimistic about the existence of Bigfoot. But, of course, you're free to ignore all the evidence and keep living in lalaland because you've been told it's the cool thing to do.

Because I'm making predictions of the kind of evidence to expect if bigfoot was real? That's how science works. Or is it because I don't want to talk about unfalsifiable and unsupported speculation about bigfoot and UFOs and alternate dimensions or whatever those guys are suggesting (to be honest I couldn't get through one of Keel's books even when I was into this kind of stuff, he's a horrible, horrible writer) on /out/? Of course I don't and I don't claim to, my specialty is entomology. But I do know where apes and early humans lived, and the kind of tools Homo erectus made, and I know more than a bit about evolution, paleontology and biogeography.

People seem to imagine BF as having intelligence similar to the great apes; I like to think that they're closer to us than is comfortable to admit. Think very early human, post-language development, but without the need for tool use since unlike us, they adapted to their environment instead of adapting it to them via spears, wheels, agriculture and so on.

If they're from an even more primitive line, just after we split from the chimpanzees, they'd have had to survive for millions of years even after Australopithecines went extinct, migrate across Asia, and cross the land bridge during the ice age, all without leaving a trace, I could hypothetically see that explaining the Yeti in Asia, but getting them to North America is more problematic.

If they're a later line then they're probably genus Homo, which means they're tool making, society having humans, and we'd find their spear points and fire pits.

I personally think they're the result of the opposite of Terence McKenna's "stoned ape" hypothesis. The first humans to reach the Fraser Delta at the end of the ice age got stupid on wild skunk and shrooms, and devolved into sasquatches. You can see the same effect on some of the PNW population today, and some day their children's children will also be sasquatches.

I am! I had an encounter with somethings that kept circling our camp and making noises like nothing that lives in the area (maybe some super fuckedup, throaty wolf, though?). It didn't haul ass when I magdumped my sks into a berm, and it came back later that night.
This was after it found us after we moved our camp on account of the same thing happening the first night.

Totally not cool. As far as I see it, I really really wanna/need to kill a sasquatch and get all famous and shit for helping science.

And living in the country your whole life you become accustomed to the sounds and activity of the wildlife. Sometimes you hear shit out here that doesn't make sense.
But whatever. That's my experience.
Doesn't mean there IS Sasquatch, doesn't mean there isn't. Just my personal opinion.

Ya when a friend and I were hunting in the Mt Baker Snoqualmie natl. forest we were walking down a forest service road a few miles in from the hwy and we heard a few unexplainable roars. I thought it was cars driving over a bridge at first but then realized we weren't near any bridge. My friend recorded the sound too.
