Kind of seems inevitable really. For most uncreative people there's only so much to talk about it. "Welp here's the woods.. it's green.."
So they have to find something "new" to talk about, well the only thing new in nature is the latest bag or knife or pot you can carry into it.
Which is why I mostly like to just watch old gray boomer channels now where they sit and drink a beer and talk about the time their dog chased a wildcat up a tree or something.

You're ignoring a huge part of /out/ videos which are the instructional ones. There's a lot of sub-topics to be talked about, like foraging, camp carpentry, cooking, fishing, tracking, mycology, location scouting, fire building what to do in a variety of emergency situations and of course gearfagging.

Based channels. Everyone is guilty of it at some point but many normies are confused and don’t know the difference between a gear queer and a Kephart. It’s like dude, your brand new looking backpack full of Amazon scores does not make you a survivalist, bushcrafter or woodsman. My younger brother spent 3-5K on operator grade bug out larp gear and never even walked a block with the goofy pack on. That was 6 years ago and he still talks about running to the hills, lol. I don’t think he has even been in the woods for 15 years. I’m out 3-4 times a month and don’t even invite him anymore.

I don't know how any of you people can stand /out/ youtube channels. Even the good ones are generally boring af and take all the fun out of it, and the rest of them are, as OP says, randos talking about how to integrate yet another piece of gear into their kit. And every asshole reviewing a new hammock or penis warmer has a gigantic Rambo knife that he'll casually and horrifyingly use to dig a hole or something fucked like that. Who the fuck gives a shit.

Yes I can see the value in sharing some knowledge, but watching how someone uses gear is insufferable

Yep. I’m not bushcrafting every piece of equipment I own so sometimes I try to research tools or gear. Especially when spending more than $50 bucks. Then the YouTube spiral begins and I can’t help but realize that every fucking piece of gear looks new and NONE of these dudes actually used this shit outside the video. Like EVERY video. It’s pretty funny when you start looking for it. Then you hear the same verbatim Amazon specs. This is why 50 years ago, people were doing fine with a small rucksack and now guys are hauling in a giant tactical woods tote that is chafing their sweaty ass crack. I’m trying hard lately to not be that guy.

Give them a budget and an internet connection and let them try to make a fire with a ferro rod, deal with a blister or tie a knot. I like this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlM61QTShCg because he's just an old dude who wants to share some knowledge (knowledge which is quite valuable for me as an /out/ausfag). Helps that he is/was an instructor for the australian army instead of just some dude. His videos are always quite informative and often comfy. Most of the stuff he teaches is fairly basic but there's lots of stuff specific to aus/out/ that you probably won't really hear elsewhere, so it's nice to not have to learn them the hard way. He enjoys bushcrafting as a hobby and admits it's basically just busywork to give yourself something to do in camp.
