Loved having this thing around at scout camp, my dad would make coffee in a similar percolator (but made of stainless) and pancakes, bacon and eggs. Maximum comfy. It's still in our garage somewhere.

Love them stoves. I’ve got one in cabin that gets used just about every weekend. You can find them for sale on Craigslist every now and again for about 40. Have a lantern too that I’ll use when I need lots of light but prefer kerosene lamp for chilling.

you can use these during a fire ban right? I'm in SoCal which always has fire bans so I know that camp fires are a no go, but these are allowed?

check the rules but yes these are generally allowed. enclosed and controlled flames that do not use solid fuel (lanterns, gas BBQs, gas stoves) are usually allowed. wood smokers, charcoal grills, wood stoves, etc are not.

I’ve been pretty happy with pic related. I’m very surprised with how low the flame can go; it’s much lower than any conventional stove I’ve used in households. I also use a stainless steel percolator to make my coffee but honestly it takes too long to boil and it rattles a lot so I hate having it in the van

You want something that doesn't take up a of room and has a second use, might I suggest a coffee can with one side cutout? it'll act as a shield but you'll also be able to pack the stove and other stuff inside
