Am I supposed to put a tarp underneath a sleeping bag if it already has a BIVY?

How about above?

I have been tentless camping for a few months in Utah and CO, but after recently moving to New England the ground is literally always damp here, and it rains every single night even when there are no clouds, I literally can see the stars and moon at night and I wake up with a bunch of water all over me STILL

Sorry friend, the bare minimum for different climates is a slight adjustment but it makes a big difference. Never ever skimp out on a good night's sleep, or your ability to eat a satisfying meal. You keep those two things in order and your /out/s will always be good

A sleeping pad? If your ground sheet is larger than the cover above it it’s worthless. This is why tent foot prints are smaller than the tent floor.

This is my sleeping configuration which works for keeping me dry during the night. I will pack a bivvy bag and/or a mosquito net if I'm going somewhere with a lot of bugs, or I'll take an inflatable mattress for added comfort.

I've slept in that exact sleeping bag many times. honestly everyone should have one if they weren't so fucking expensive. Never tried to survive the rain in it, just put up a tarp and dig a rain ditch. you'll want your gear out of the rain anyway. the bivy Is literally just a tarp wrapped around you. If you use a sleeping mat (I use blow up) it should help, it's much comfier too.

I spent a day trudging through light brush in Indiana once (was for work, not for fun) and found a tick on my dick while showering that night. Actually it was where my scrotum and dick meet. It was very unnearving. I've plucked hundreds of ticks off me so far but that is one I'll never forget.

See above. You can buy permethrin spray, it sticks to clothes, bags, tarps, mosquito nets, etc. pretty well. Treatment lasts on clothes for a few washes. Insects (including ticks and mosquitoes and anything else thats giving you trouble) that come in contact with permethrin-treated gear will die pretty much instantly. Humans and dogs metabolize it really effectively and quickly so its safe to use, keep it away from cats though since they don't metabolize it as well and might get sick (probably won't die though unless its prolonged exposure without treatment).

I’m literally crying I’m laughing so hard. It’s condensation. It’s very humid here and the water in the air condenses on everything ground level overnight.

I prefer the New England forests to anything else friend. It's cozy and there's so much to discover. In most of the west/southwest you can see 30mins in every direction. Kinda takes the fun out of exploring when you walk a mile or two, turn around, and can see right back to the spot you came from

I've been sleeping like this for years and it was always smooth sailing. I only add cheap large tarp underneath the sleeping mat, so you don't fuck up your sleeping bag and you have more space for stuff like boots. Only make sure you are setting up in slightly elevated spot (or make it yourself) so in case of heavy rain your ground tarp won't serve as a personal lake.

Depends.

Once you add a tarp, you might as well just be packing a tent unless you are doing it for stealth reasons. A tarp can extend the material lasting ability. If you have something bombproof like the OR Alpine, you can literally lay it in a creek and be fine. So it depends.

How do I stay warm in a hammock? I only used to sleep in the woods in summer when a blanket was enough. I am thinking ofnonly a sleeping bag but i feel the bottom of the hammock would get cold pretty quickly as it starts to get below 0 Celsius during th enights
Also what tarp is the best for hammock setup?

Underquilts are a thing. Maybe a hammockfag will pop in and tell you about them but I personally don't sleep in bear burritos.

been camping in NH for a while, the coldest nights I'll tolerate are ~25F, so not much below 0C
when i've hammocked in these conditions, I'll use a 20 degree bag, a liner, sleep in my base layer and hat. usually i do alright. not sure if that helps at all.

There's a couple of ways to make DIY underquilts. I tie a woobie to my ridgeline and let it hang underneath. That works to about 50F with a 50F deg bag as a top quilt. You can also experiment with pads. I hate them in the hammock because I always slide off, but you can find a wide close-cell pad that works okay. If you're dedicated to hammocking at near 0C I'd suggest getting a 20F underquilt of some kind.

Tarp? Eh anything silnylon and longer than you hammock. Technically an 11ft hammock should fit an 11ft tarp but a little longer is some insurance. You can also get winter tarps which have door like ends which close up to stop drafts or winter socks which are basically a tarp-like under-cover for rain splashing up and wind.

Yeah that's pretty much the place to go. Can't camp in state forests which is bullshit, and the state parks are the classic picnic table fire ring etc. packed in like sardines. Well, most of the state parks anyway. So the White's are pretty much it, unless you're bolder than I am and camp in the state forests or parks. And honestly it isn't even that bold, would probably be pretty easy to get away with it.

NH is a beautiful state, I'm afraid your jealousy may be warranted.
Unless you quite experienced I'd say your window for a solo trip is closing quickly. It's warm this weak but any later and it will take substantial know-how.
As for ticks, they suck and are out there. One of my friends had lyme disease but he is a, um, unclean person. Otherwise, be vigilant, get them off ASAP but otherwise don't sweat it. I actually only saw maybe 5 ticks total this year, none had embedded themselves. On multi day trips I strongly suggest taking air baths and checking for them then.
But in the whole: be wary and reasonable, but don't sweat it.

nah I've bivvy camped for weeks at a time along the east coast during rainstorms and shit and it was fine, as long as you're ok being mildly uncomfortable. a tarp under a bivvy would literally only save the bottom of your bivy from wear and tear over time, so thats a call you can make. the whole point of a bivy is to be all encompassing water proof capsule
