https://youtu.be/gLEdjBP3gLsA good beginner trick: If you want to sharpen your knife place it on your stone as if you wanted to cut it like a stick. Then slightly tilt your wrist towards yourself so the angle becomes flatter, that way you form an edge that will always bite and not scrape.
