I mean using for prep work, cutting deer hair off the tail or getting synthetics all laid out to tie. They are not sharp enough and don't have a fine enough tip for me to use while I'm actually tying the fly.

I've only ever caught one atlantic in my many years of fishing. Even brook trout, which in many places of the state are near extinct, have no protections and can be taken home and eaten. What kind of flies do you tie? I tie mostly streamers so the scissors are only used to cut deer hair and synthetics prior to tying. I use razor blades to trim heads.

I tie mostly trout flies but also pike and striper flies. They are alot better for bigger streamers but are not great for trout stuff. I use my scissors for all my fine work while tying and keep the scissors in my hand so having a fine tip is a must.
Another draw back I've found at least on the model I got is small finger loops. I keep the them on my middle finger and press the other finger loop in my hand while tying so I can just slip my thumb in when I need to cut. If they get over your knuckle on the middle finger they start to control your hand and make tying a pain. Larger finger grips make it easier to keep them off your knuckles than the smaller ones on the fiskar. I don't mind them for course work or prep but going to probably buy another set of tiemcos.

Ye that makes sense. The main reason I use them is how long they keep an edge cutting synthetic/hair and the price. Regular tying scissors are basically useless for big streamers and get dull pretty quickly.

Depends on how deep the water is, how fast the waters is moving and if you're trying to launch it really far. That looks like something I would fish in about 20' of water or maybe a little deeper.

Just for reference in our bays when I fish a paddletail on a jighead it's a 3" bait on a 1/4-3/8oz jighead. And when I'm out on a boat in deeper water it's a 1/2-1 1/2oz jighead with a 5-7" bait.

Don't worry about what you catch if you're just doing catch and release. Jusr focusing on catching something. If you're gonna eat it, look into what is popular/edible locally and be able to identify them. I live in fl so I can fish all year round. Some fish are more active in certain seasons but there's no restrictions to my knowledge, at least fresh water. Might be different for other areas or salt.

Biggest thing with edibility is water quality. Blue gill are fine to eat if the waters not polluted to shit. Avoid ponds by roads or train tracks If you're planning to eat

All of that entirely depends on where you live. Look up the fishing regulations for your state/country. Bluegill are a fine eating fish if you get a few decent sized ones, they taste about the same as any other panfish.

Find their food if you can. If clear water, keep an eye out for areas with lots of minnows or small bluegills. Especially look for edges between cover and open, deeper water such as a dropoff from shallow, weedy water into water too deep for weeds. Pike will sit in the edges to ambush or patrol along them. If you are stuck on shore, try to find a pier or just some access to deeper water like a point. If you are on a boat, drift or troll cover edges with spoons or crankbaits. Smaller pike will live in weedbeds because they also need cover from large pikes, so throwing a weedless spoon or other weedless lure with a lot of action can catch them. Time of day doesn't matter much for small or medium pike.

If you want to catch giant pike, you need to know what they are eating. In deeper, colder lakes they will go deep and feed on cisco, smelt, or whitefish in the summer, then shallower in the fall and winter.

Also, don't use mono line right down to the lure. Use braid, or a wire or braid leader. Pike teeth go straight through even thick mono, but will rarely go through braid unless they are huge.

Where on the west coast? A go to for most stuff on the west coast is a paddletail on a jighead, but there's a lot more you can try depending on target and what kind of coast it is (cliffs/rocks, shore breaky beach, long gradual sandy beach, bay or harbor, pier).

If you fish from a kayak it’s not worth it as you don’t have the angle to see anything anyway. If you fish from a boat or wade fish for trout it may be worth it but my amber lens does fine for trout imo. If you fish saltwater you might want something better than is mirrored to fight glare and protect your eyes.

I live on and mostly fish a little creek here in Texas.I do have a couple of kayaks but I mainly want the polarized glasses for fishing of my porch and deck. The porch is 10' above the water which does cause some issues but man I can see pretty well from that angle. I'm just not sure if more expensive glasses actually work any better.

I highly doubt there will be any difference in polarization effect. Kastking sells glasses with different lens colors that are supposed to be more effective in certain light situations. I would try that, they are ~$30 a pair.

First off I'd hardly call me being a "poorfag" because I fish with a Penn Fierce 8000 and a Penn Fierce 4000 I happen like them two rod and reels and can catch the same fish a $600+ rod/reel can. By the way I fish inshore so these setups work just fine. I watched a dumb YouTuber called Joshua Taylor use a $450+ rod called a St. Croix Legend Xtreme and it break like it was a kids pole LMAO imagine spending $450 on a rod knowing that where you're going to fish might get your rod broken.

For my other seafishing britfag friends or the seafishing-curious, I've been using a new reel for beachcasting and it's amazing.

The Sonik SKS 8000 is really solid and crazy value for ~£40, it's a bit heavier than the usual discount reels as it's metal instead of plastic, but it has an amazing action, very comparable to my Shimano Ultgra (~£200).

If you want to upgrade from a £20 garbage reel to something a little better, I'd get this, I have two now and the Shimano has stayed at home since (don't want to break it).

After the civil war they stocked the streams with brown trout for sport because they killed and ate all the brook trout which are native. Also I'd be interested in a Trico pattern. I tie down to size 20 but only for nymphs. On my local freestone we usually don't get tricos hatching, if there is a hatch its larger mayflys or caddis. I'm planning on tying some Krystal midges for the next time I go over to the tailwater.

Anyone ever used bombarda floats?

From what I can tell, they are very useful for fishing lures, it helps you cast small lures long distances and allows you to retrieve those lures at a specific depth.

They are popular in Spain for Bonito, and sea trout in Scandinavia. I bet they'd work well for large lakes and reservoirs too

Okay, so this fly is called a bunny midge. Uncle cheech did a video about it. The fly is literally that, but backwards with a little bulbous thorax made of superfine dubbing. The wing is by the bend, and there is no tail. When you tie it on, you leave your tag two hook lengths long, and then your tippett, knot, and tag make the tails of the trico.

Google tells me Googans are made in Japan, which isn't much better. That being said, St. Croix's lower end models are made in Mexico (arguably still the US). I think everything up to and including the Premier line is Mexico. The Avids are made in the US, but some might not be. Would have to check each line individually.

How much do you think the moon cycles affect fishing? It feels abnormally slow, even for this time of year. I've moved one small musky and caught this pike in the last two days. I'm hoping Friday/Saturday/Sunday will be better since the it will be a full moon.

Probably depends on the fish, but I find that it's somewhat noticeable with lake trout. My theory is that when the moon is full or nearly full, predators will freely feed throughout the night then feed less during the day.

Watch the forecast and try to get out fishing as or just before a cold front hits. It's honestly crazy how big a difference it makes. I hit a cold front a few days ago to catch rainbows, browns, and lake trout. Early in the day it was super windy and kind of warm and the fishing was absolutely insane. Every cast I was getting hit or one would follow it up. Normally in that spot I would consider it lucky to get a limit of 4 in a full day of fishing. Around 3pm it suddenly got calm for 30 or so minutes, then the front hit and it got windy again and the temperature started dropping fast. Just one bite for the rest of the day after that. It ended up going from 60 around noon to 25 and snowy that night, and the fish knew it was coming.

When trout are keyed in on a hatch like that they aren’t going to eat anything else. I tried swinging wetflies and stripping streamers by with no success. I could see them totally ignoring the subsurface presentation but I got a bunch of refusals on the dried.

There are a LOT of lucrative jobs in the industry. My brother in law is first mate on a 100ft charter boat. You can do 6pack charters. You can get fishing permits for selling fish. And yes, you just go to a dock and sell your fish. My wife worked at a fish market in Hampton bays and bought pretty much anything in season. Clams, porgy, dogfish, stripped bass, lobster, crabs, ling, and different varieties of tuna.
If you can catch it, you can sell it. You just need licenses, permits, and quotas.

Build custom.
This is my newest rod. It's a MHX rod blank with high frame eyes going to low profile 5mm rings out the end. It's a 2 piece with split grip cork and Fuji reel seat.
I did it in a black out design. Black blank, eyes, thread, and black finish.

My point is, I get what I want and pay less for it.

There’s a river in biking distance of my house so I’m thinking about biking down there in the morning, I’ve fished there before with a bobber and a worm and caught some decent sized rainbows, how should I try to catch them on my fly rod? It’s a small river but at the part I plan on fishing the current is very slow (slower than slow walking speed) I fished there at night just as the tide was going out so I assume I should still be going when the tide is going out. I’m basically treating it like still water so would a streamer under an indicator work? Would something else work better? You could fish a small streamer under and indicator but generally it’s more effective to strip them at different speeds and retrieval patterns till you get some interest. Generally nymphs are fished under an indicator.
