i started daydreaming today and came up with an idea to go on a pilgrimage to santiago de compostella once i get done with uni
how realistic is it that ill make it?

Pretty unrealistic if you've never spent a long time by yourself in the outdoors before. The psychological challenge can be more difficult to overcome than the physical challenge.
So start practicing now. Spend your weekends in the woods. Practice bushcraft and determine what gear you like.

I think money is basically your limiting factor. First, figure out how much money you'll have before the trip, let's say as an example, 5k.

Then figure out how many dollars a day you'll need. Again, as an example, let's say 100 a day on average.

That means you'll need to make the hike in 50 days at most. But, maybe it should be 45, so you'll have 500 bucks left at the end of your trip

It's just a theoretical example. I was trying to illustrate how to determine costs only. It could be even 50 or 25 a day, but OP would have to do the homework to determine this. I'd budget for a hotel room at least a few times a week, though.

The route in OP pic is never more than 3km from a road or more than 15km from a village or town. All you really need is money and some basic backpacking essentials.

When we did the Spanish part of Camino Frances we met a retired guy who had just one day walked out of his front door in the Netherlands and had walked the entire way to Spain.
He pulled a small cart with all the stuff he needed and spent the nights where ever.

It's not like all the way in the /out/ or wood.
You'll most likely hike from village to village. Like a chain of strolls.
If it's pilgrimage go ask your local priest. Maybe he has experience or knows someone who has, to get you planned.

Money? 20€ per day is sufficient. This includes the occasional train/bus ticket.

I did the spanish part of the Camino de Santiago (since im spaniard) like 5 years ago and I met a guy who came from Saint Petersburg. Just do it. If you really want to do it, you just need to start walking. The people are very nice and you can sleep in shelters and churches, and you will not spend more than two days without crossing some village or town (most of the days you just go from one village to another and sleep somewhere near) atleast in the spanish part. I'm guessing it'll be pretty varied in terrain like the Te Araroa Trail in NZ. Probably both higher and colder in places.

Highly realistic. There's an infrastructure in place to help with food and lodging. You basically need a day pack, good shoes and a blanket.

bruh you don't have to do all that distance. the distance on feet required to receive your compostela certificate is only 62mi. that's just the last few days of the trip on foot in spain if you started at st jean pie de port.
